Okay, I feel like it's time to make some conclusions.

There are two main points in this discussion. F1 thing and reputation/roleplaying matter.

As for F1, I will try to find exe that takes F1 out of the game while you are in space. Instead, I will include F1 into Open Singleplayer patch for Discovery. This seems logical enough, allowing players use F1 freely in singleplayer.

Roleplaying is connected to what reputation players have. So this is a matter to decide when we'll know what to do with factions.

Regarding the F1 issue. In this, Im with xit, if you role-play a pirate, that is, you are RED on my HUD, then I wont use F1. Ive been given plenty of warning that youre hostile, and I can take evasive action.
I will, however, F1 if a GREEN pirate suddenly opens fire on me and Im flying around with 20+ millions worth of cargo.

If F1 is disabled, then I would suggest adding a rule that pirates must be hostile towards the four houses. That way players are given a warning that a hostile player is in the area.

Just out of curiosity, can we make it so that you can choose your affiliations when creating a new player? That is, if I want to play a pirate, then I will start the game as a pirate whos already hostile towards normal players

Regarding the docking issue. How does one see if another ship is locked in a docking animation? Ive been locked is some pretty strange locking docking procedures that had me flying randomly around the base

I think its less of a matter of how good the rules are as opposed to how easy they are to enforce. If strict rules are enforced over F1 useage, such as context heavy situations like 'A player can F1 if he is carrying certain cargo', then what will stop people from F1ing then saying that they were carrying unmounted weapons.

Firstly, people could go about accusing people of using F1 all the time, and thats somthing that cannot be proved even with a screenshot.

Forcing players to join red/green factions, like mentioned above, disallows character development meaning that you cant start as a trader, get rich, then turn to piracy or vice versa without having to make new accounts. A system is being created where clans have their own faction tags. Its more a matter of the trader being aware of who is a pirate, and which clans are hostile. This is an element of roleplay.

Say another meathod is introduced, I.E. F1 rules only apply to clan wars, for which an administrator must be present to observe. This could lead to incorrect F1 accusations if people crash, which I've seen happen in combat numerous times. Trust me when I say, the other side will not hesitate to shout out 'Cheater!' if sombody randomly dissapears from a huge scrim when they were about to destroy them.

For this reason, it would probably be a much better idea to stick to a very straight, honest set of rules. I.e.

No excessive use of bad language
No PVP in NY
No killing people under level 30 if you are above level 30
Good maners, and fight honourably.

All are easy to maintain, enforce, and don't put unessacary restrictions on characters. If people use F1, the'll gain a bad reputation from other players, and be more subject to PVP attacks, until the admin decides that they are fighting unhonourably and uses the last rule to remove them.

Server police are needed. Not in an RP sense, just basicaly administrators who are always present and watching over the server. They don't need to go around shouting arrest, but would need a good sense of judgement, and not be afraid to ban should the need be. Also, a ban complaint system could be introduced onto the forums, for those who feel they have been wrongly banned, or wish to apollagise and get back into the game.

Its not a matter of simply removing players who admins feel are playing unfairly or dishonourably, but letting them know what they are doing wrong, and giving them the chance to make up for it.

Pirates should not be in good relations with house factions. They should be RED with them, and friendly towards the other unlawful factions.

A good starting reputation would be all (or most) neutral. It seems quite logical because when you start the game, nobody knows you, so nobody hates/loves you. Starting as neutral (or maybe not 50/50 neutral, but with pirates hating you enough so if you attack one of their ships, you would ruin you rep with them) you could choose the faction you want to join.

SErver police will cause a lot of problems. SP is not required.
This server is a civilized and quiet place. Exept for the -=?=- incident, there are no other problems here that require of a server police. I was the one woh suggested the police here in the first place, but now that i think on it, it would bring more problems than solutions.

What, so the server will just sit there without administration?

How are rules enforced without administration.

Well. you post a screenshot and tell the story. The admins check it and take the necesary actions....
Server police will be useless because they cant be everywhere. IF a police is in berlin, and you are attackd illegaly in... dublin, what the police will do? they are useless in that situation..

For server like ours, two admins are far enough. No more talks about server police, never. Admins can do nothing from inside the game, they are normal players with ability to announce things for the whole universe. All operations (ban, kick, etc) are done with IFSO, which require to log on the PC where server is running. If we give access to many people, then the server won't last long. Care about security.

But can you see when people are playing unfairly from outside the server? Last time I checked, ICSO dosnt moniter chat, player deaths or anything like that.

Screenshots cannot be used to proove unfair play like excessive F1ing. To do things like that you need a movie, and not everyone is happy to leave fraps on 24/7.

You know that a player is F1ing when you see the "New Player: <Player>" in the chat window. If there is no "departing player" or "Dead player" before it, then the player F1ed.
And no. you cant see them from outside the server.

That is news to me

If I F1 and Log Off (in order to avoid being killed and lose my cargo), wont the console display f2k-Trader Departed?
