Actually, it's scientifically proven that average intelligence decreases as population increases.

So there you go, more pirates = more stupid pirates. I'm not saying there won't be any smart pirates but more stupid ones than smart ones. The "if you can't beat them, join them" only makes it worse.

Does anyone else remember the days when a trip from Detroit to Pittsburgh warranted two LSF escorts?
And when that Tradelane went down the captains crapped themselves and the escorts did everything they could to ensure the Transports got back into the lane?

Yeah. That was fun.

Do you remember the days where some guy owing you a million credits was a REALLY big deal?

Good times.

But, it does not change the fact that you are being a jerk on a game, which people play for fun. If we are not going to have some fair-play, especially in this oh so awesome economy, it is not fun any more.
Well, I suppose I'm a jerk then.

I didn't read the whole thread, I've been through so many of these my head swims now.

Trade smart, you'll never get caught by a single pirate. Don't trade smart you'll never make any money. The same goes for pirates, pirate stupid and you'll never make any money. Pirate smart and you'll make tons.

I think I'm going to start a self help group. We'll call it "Pirate Jerks and PvP Whores R Us". For all of us that obviously don't know how to RP because we engage in PvP and/or pirate traders. How dare we, clearly we need help and lots of it.

' Wrote:It is all relative. I should have also made a post "Are traders getting dumber" also, as pointed out here, they are also not great at times. In general though. I have been around a long long time here, and the number of pirates has gone up like 500%, and most of them are just moron's who want to make quick cash sitting on a tradelane doing nothing,or PvP whores. It used to be alot different, just ask some of the other vets around.(NY excluded. always been an idiot haven)

True. Like you say pirates have increased by 500%. But so has the number of Liberty lawful factions and mercenaries. We used to just have the SA to contend with. Now we've got [LN], LNS, =LSF=, LPI, LMC, and this list goes on. Not to mention we've got Bretonian lawful faction members (whom I've complained about in the past) coming to New York and other parts of liberty "enforcing the law." Mercenaries are about 90% lawful and 10% neutral or unlawful. Traders and miners seem to have found better trade routes and hidden mining spots because I can't seem to find very many. And those I do find give me the "lol" or "hahaha silly pirate" or "i never pay." From my perspective, there's as many lawfuls willing to take out a pirate as there are pirates pirating.

I think it's the exact same thing as the random anti-trader threads. It's not that people want less risk, it's just that they hate dumb people. And they're everywhere!

If you're losing all your profit on a run, you should try another run.

But, to be honest, I can't remember the last time I was pirated, and didn't walk into it for the extra interaction.

I forgot there were even still pirates around. The last one I've seen come near me in quite some time was the alternate ship of the miner that was shot by my escort.

Can I join?

Anyways... aside from the obvious things one can do to not get caught by evil pirates. When drawn to the interaction the only thing I can suggest is that you play it like you would if a cop pulled you over for speeding.
I mean seriously I have yet to have some female captain flash me while I pirated them or at least show me some cleavage. :D

' Wrote:Ye .. adding more rules and restrictions, limiting roleplay and pvp is what we need to make server more fun and to bash and nerf pirates even more. I never expected that such proposal will come from n00blet actually. We already have 0.0 what for is creating even more restrictions?

I fly a Zoner Guard ID'd trader. Want to go into who got nerfed more? Seriously? Want to go into how much "pirates" ask you for? Seriously?

Now, when was the last time 0.0 was used solely in a sanction?

' Wrote:Uh, no other ID (not counting the ooRP ones) protects you from being engaged without a prior demand? If I'm flying any other lawful, the pirates can engage me at will; if I'm flying a pirate even other pirates can engage me if they feel like it (and have a valid RP reason to). If I'm flying a trader, I can essentially do what I want except for entering certain systems; as long as I pay up nobody without a Keeper or Terrorist ID is allowed to touch me.

An engagement notice is not needed, but prior role-play is.

Try again.

Anything I say is not intended as offensive, and to try and deliberately misinterpret it as such would be an attempt at trolling via misrepresentation.

It's not a conspiracy, it's localised bias. They're not intelligent enough to form a conspiracy.

I play both sides.

As a Unioner, when we do donations hunt, i KUDOS the few trader/miner that really RPs with us. Its not easy to be a "pirate", keeping your RP motivations, and try to give the trader/miner a good time. If you put a jerk kinda feeling, "drop it or die", hell, we all loose. Whats the motivation for that?

As a miner, i find sometimes easier to RP with smart pirates. Even if its a "give us your cargo" after a good RP, or even if i loose my ship to a merc, i like to have a good time on it.

What i find funny, is that i hear people here say "oh, i never get pirate" "oh, i'm smarter than that" and than when they get to their pirate ships, what do they expect? If you a jerk on a side, you will be a jerk on the other. That's s simple.

Just have fun and don't ruin others funs.

2 cent here

Yeah! But seriously. Those who brag they never see a pirate, are probly doing boring runs through empty space, and not RP'n with anyone at all. Sure we can all do that,or all fly 30K above/below TL's, and yes probly avoid all pirates. How is that fun? I have np being pirated. Hell i have probly single handedly sponsored some pirates, and had fun doing it. I used to haul Gold ore to Munich in my Bowex Train, and i gave a Sail(cannot remember which one) 20mil when pirated by him.I had no problem doing so,as i made 82mil a trip, and he gave good RP while pirating. He originally asked for 10mil,but after the fun i sent 10mil extra. All i ask is that pirates play to have fun,and hand out fun, instead of just power pirating. I mostly hate trading, and a good hold up makes itmore fun,but a horible hold up just pisses folks off.

PS. @NooB I also have a zoner guard ZBT,and yeah it really suck's to be pirated when you have no guns, and little armour, and all you get is the drop your cargo crap.

It's more that a lot of pirates are very very predictable. For instance, Galileo seems to attract lots of pirates but not Kepler - which way is easier AND safer? The Sigmas are also usually pirate free. They mostly seem to sit along ore routes these days.

Of course, it seems less about pirate activity and more about general trends. Fun piracy attempts are always nice.
