And i will help dab in killing the one F1ing. Even if he is an AW. AW warriors must follow a honor code. F1 is not allowed in combat situations...

As I said before, if Im attacked by someone who RP a pirate (that is, turns up red on my HUD), then I wouldnt dream of using F1 to escape. He got me fair and square, and I accept that. However, if Im attacked by a non-RPing pirate, then Ill do anything to escape including F1

It was just an interesting tactic that I did not know. Thats all

That being said, I would ask that all pirates issue a warning before attacking. It might just be that Im transporting some equipment I dont want to lose. And in that case, Id rather cough up with the money, instead of risking destruction

Pirates are supposed to hail you before attacking. After all, a pirate wants to steal money/cargo from you. They should try to destroy your ship as a last resort.

I have a suggestion

Rule: If a character does not belong to any clan or faction, then he may not be attacked AT ALL except in self defence.

Reason: Today I nearly got myself killed when AW, -=?=-, and NSP clashed, without warning, in a system I was coincidently passing through. Now, I have nothing to do with these factions and I dont want to have anything to do with them (or with any clan or faction for that matter). I therefore ask that my neutrality is respected, and that any ongoing wars are not used as an excuse for firing madly at anything that moves.

To be honest, Id rather that such a rule wasnt necessary. But it seems that some players just dont want to leave me alone. And I dont want to have half of Sirius off limits to me, just because some players regard everything that moves as target practice.

This server belongs to all of us - both those who want to fight and those who want to be left alone. Why cant we accommodate both?

Daedalus kindly explained how his suggestion would work (later in this thread). Just disregard this suggestion

If you're neutral, Rule 3 of my suggestion would take care of that:

1. No pvp in New York
2. No attacking players under a certain level (in this case 30)
3. No attacking non-hostile players
4. Good manners and game etiquette required at all times

Role-played characters:
daedalus - Liberty Navy
bandersnatch - Ruthless criminal possessed by a (huge) alien
Shredder - Small-time Kusari pirate, looking to join the Blood Dragons

One problem, this rule assumes that everyone is honest and are willing to play by the rules. All you need is one hot-head or idiot who shoots at everything in sight.

In case you don't I will explain - when you meet other players, Freelancer looks at each characters reputation with the 50 game factions and compares the results. It displays on the hud in colour how those characters would react to eachother if they were npcs.

Under these rules, if a pirate faction insisted on being neutral, it wouldn't be able to attack anyone. In fact it wouldn't be a pirate faction. This is assuming 100% neutrality which is probably difficult to achieve.

Yes, that's correct, but see above. As it's difficult to be totally neutral there may be rare instances of friendlies and hostiles.

Correct, but it also includes the corporations which are generally law-abiding, although some are hostile toward eachother, as are some criminal factions.
