Mining is being reduced because, right now, it's much more profitable than trading. The idea is to make them both equal in terms of profits. We should have more traders than miners. Miners, Traders hauling the miner's minerals, and Traders hauling commodities from one base to another. It should be a 1:2 ratio. With profits being equal, it should bump up the number of traders. This is definitely needed. Traders cause pirate activity, which causes lawful activity. We've had a shortage of traders, which has made many pirate factions less active if they don't inhabit one of the mining areas.
Now it will be a personal choice, doing whatever you like better. Not choosing to mine because it's more profitable.
This is dumb. My FAVORITE thing to do in the whole entire game of Freelancer has been nerfed to all hell. Sure, it seems a bit much at 12k per unit of ore for Niobium, but there are a variety of factors that make it hard to gather it all up.
1: It takes a considerable amount of time to mine the stuff.
2: While you are mining, a pirate can come along and easily blow you up. Even with escorts.
3: After you are full, you can either book it for the destination solo, then end up being pirated numerous times/blown to bits, or...
4: You can hire an escort to scout ahead. If pirates are detected, then you have to distract them from seeing your transport, or ask them why they are there (the example of a Junker hovering above Freistadt in O-7 in a PTrans trying to pirate you comes to mind).
5: You won't always make it with a full load, if at all, because of pirates coming to steal your ore.
6: Even if you somehow manage to make it to the destination and sell the ore, you still have to head back, so if you die, you obviously can't go back for another 4 hours.
I am REALLY disappointed with the sudden "lolnerf" path the Admins have chosen. The fact that they gave no notice WHATSOEVER is what REALLY peeves me off.

It's like "if you can't play well with the toys we gave you, We'll take them away".
In case anyone was wondering just what we were thinking ... this pretty much sums it up. And no, I did not do this by myself or on my own, there was discussion about this.

Sorry, you're very wrong there Dab. It's not equal at all now. Split that mining profit 3-4 ways like the guy above me said and tell me it's equal profit to trading. Go ahead, try it.
Now try mining alone, spend 3 hours collecting and shipping ore to make 30 mil. Now tell me that's equal to trading for 3 hours.
There will never be more traders than miners. Why? Nobody actually LIKES trading. It's horrible. Let me rephrase, very few people like trading. Very few.

Well that is sad.
I have question. Can you give the mining bonus not only on ID/IFF but on tag? I think that this is unfair to the Official mining factions.
I agree that the tensions between Pirates and Miners need to be solved.
But I am sure that this is not the way.
