I don't fancy a tight scripted event.

why? because it won't fly.
you -cannot- steer the sheer amounts of (indie) players in the right direction.
look at the BHG/Order/Nomad event. People rp-ing nomads as Rick Ashley, guys who scream 'quack' in system chat with ridiculously named ships. unless you keep the number of participants down to the minimum and make a script and execute it by the letter it will work. meaning it becomes the recording of a videoclip rather than an event for the community.

is that fun? no.

the event should be about fun. make a ship, log in and join the carnage.
The rp was pretty good at times, and lousy at others. just like on the main server.

just keep these events for what they are supposed to do: be fun.

Come up with a storyline and an outcome. Then let the players fill in the rest and work towards the plot.

In my opinion, it was better, yes, not sure.

I didn't find it as fun with the BHG vs Order vs Nomads. I had more fun just when it was BHG vs Order. Though perhaps this was caused by the time frame I played in, as I wasn't able to play when the Marduks came around. When the nomads joined in, I personally thought that there was less action, and more waiting around for something to happen. When something did happen though, it wasn't as epic as it was before.

Though, in the BHG vs Order, it was epic.

Perhaps there should be some kind of re-engagement rule, e.g you can't re-engage or join the battle for something like 10 mins. It would stop the problem where you kill the enemy, and they'll literally be back 30 seconds later.

I actually like the idea that you can break off and resupply. It makes fighters and bombers more durable than big ships.
You can actually flee and live, how cool is that?

Just one comment regarding your poll - it was my understanding that this was supposed to be a 3 way event right from the beginning (as in, that's how you guys on the dev team wrote this up). Thus, that's how I directed this.

Now - as Dash said, these events are there to be fun. If you guys want to tightly direct things, go do that on the test server with people that will do exactly what you say, when you say it.

If on the other hand you want to involve more of the player base (and at one point I saw almost 90 people on the server) then you'll not make it so tight, you'll let it be fun, and you'll learn to lighten up and go with the flow. Your call - you have 4 weeks - and THEN we'll see how things go.

Oh, and I do agree on maps. It's something that honestly none of us mentioned that I recall. We were all experienced players that already know where all of the JH's and JG's are. I know - I've flown with these guys before on new ships, and we can click and end up with 500 M of almost any JH in Sirius.

This thread is for player feedback on how the current event worked/not worked. Please avoid "No U" posts, thank you.

Gee, I thought my comment on your 3rd poll question was valid feedback, because you were asking if it was a good idea. And I was agreeing with your comment on the maps, and explaining why they weren't there. At the last moment, once they realized how popular the Nomad characters were, I hopped into the Nomad ships and put the map to the JH in O-100 on them.

You guys probably know how to add them by editing the files, which will help the people who don't fly in the part of Sirius where the events occur.

Loadouts with clearly inferior equipment ... As I stated, in my event, the players were the NPC's. You don't HAVE to have the top of the line everything. This is also a reflection of how real life events would affect things. That's also why the restart command for Ossies was turned off - to reflect that they ran out of parts to make them. Factories can only produce so much of one thing - if you want to reflect that, then you have to limit those things. Otherwise, you may as well give everyone the best codes available, and to hell with any resemblance to a reality. (If I don't give you some explanation on what my reasoning was behind my decisions, how can you improve upon them, after all? I'm certainly capable of doing an after-action critique on my own efforts.)

I dont think a tightly scripted event is the way to go but i enjoyed that it developed over the course of the weekend rather than being just one long fight. Maybe this could be simulated by a certain side gaining ground and being able to dock on a base closer to the fight, therefore pushing the enemy back.

I really liked the idea that the order had run out of osiris, although everyone who already had one just sold other ships and traded the money to keep them going, using the excuse of "We have 1000s of them in storage.." to explain it in rp. Maybe find some way to stop this happening, although people always want what they cant have and will somehow find a way to get it.

A similar thing on the story, even though we knew the BHG should win to start with then the nomads beat everyone people still wanted to play as order and therefore the action didnt reflect the story. Same thing happened with GRN KNF, everyone wanted to be KNF cos the GRN are supposed to steamroll them. Dunno how to deal with this one its just an observation.

Totally just posted this over a long time while reading other threads so i apologise if its a bit.. rambly.

Hmm. I'll sum my opinion up quickly.

Great things
  • There was readily available fighting.
  • It was nice to be able to play as a side or sides that you wouldn't normally play as.
  • It allowed for some great RP
  • It allowed me to see the stories we had prepared come to life, that really made the event great for me.
Things that could have been improved
  • Restricting the amount of Capital Ships - If we were supposed to be reprisenting NPCs, then the Osiris to Fighter ratio wouldn't be 10:1. More like 1:10
  • Maps - Agmen already admitted that, it was a genuine thing that had been overlooked, no biggie.
  • More organisation - As a FL, I found that; although the Order players reacted quite well to leadership, listening when needed and such. There wasn't enough organisation. What bugged me a lot was people yelling orders around when they had no right to. Lots of spam in the group chats made it hard to get yourself heard. Also, there were a few people who failed to acknowledge the leadership of the High Command and refused to follow orders, but that was sorted out I believe.

Some are calling for cap restrictions and whatnot, but I say less restrictions are better.

During the "dark days" when 10+ Ossies were outside Freeport 11, and the BHG| people were outnumbered two to one, we used /fm and got everyone in BHG Bombers. When they came at us with all Solaris Ossies, we just hopped in anti-cap Makos.

If possible, in the next event, give everyone a complete map of the battle area. Also, it would be nice if every faction weapon (from Class 8 through Primary BS turrets) and generic weapon (shieldbusters, generic cap guns, SNACs, CDs, missiles, everything except codenames) were sold at each faction's starting base, and every player got ~100mill to spend on tech. Also, I'd be nice to have a light fighter restart. I've seen them used to great effect in fleet battles.

True, people will spam, and some people will join the side that's winning by superior numbers, but there are a few of us (me included) who don't mind that so much. I always tried to stay on the outnumbered side and get a tight and coordinated group together. Much more fun that way and much more opportunity for tactical thinking.
