Its a sad day when you have to assume that every ship you encounter is hostile. Its a sad day when part of Sirius is off-limits to you because some faction thinks that its fun to lord it over other players.

I'll usually assume that any PC inbound could be hostile especially since they usually always appear white (to me anyways) and keep an eye on them until I know they're intentions.

Question, why is everyone so ticked about a clan using a system as a staging area. I mean granted they could of added some more info into their message (like mentioning that it was temporary would have been a good idea) and had it come from the right clan (very important, guys). But, I mean the gist of their message was "we're using Bering right now, stay out or face destruction". Look on the bright side, at least they gave you a warning this time!!!
Anyways, if a trader wanted to try to run through that would be their choice to ignore the warning and accept the risks.

Well, my problem is that we should all be allowed to play on the server. What right do you have to tell me where I can and cannot fly? Do you own the Sirius system? Do you have some kind of Divine claim to it?

Ok, so Im exaggerating here. Right, back on track

Actually, I dont mind factions claiming territories as their own. But I do mind it when that means that Im suddenly not allowed to fly there anymore. Claiming a small symbolic toll, say 100K, to be allowed free passage through a system is ok being denied entrance to the system is not.

Also, what do I get in return for my hard earned credits? The right to not be blown into an expanding cloud of atomic particles? I mean, the Danish government does not show up at my door screaming PAY OR DIE and then just run off with my money.

It would be a nice gesture on the part of the various factions, if they actually told me what my credits are being used for.

An example: You must pay 100K credits to be in the systems controlled by SF. In return, we - the members of SF - promise to patrol the tradelanes of our territory and to actively engage any know pirate who attacks you while within our system.

Or: We are the notorious pirates knows as NSP! You will immediately surrender your cargo or 100K credits! Failure to do so will cost you dearly!

My apologies to the named factions I use them as an example, nothing more :-)

Of course, this should be followed up by real action. That is, if I pay for safe passage from a given factions systems, then it should be safe. And if I pay a pirate to leave me be, then I should be left alone

Nah, they say "pay up or go to jail"
On the hand, these guys could be considered more like the mob. In which "PAY or DIE" is about right.

Ya, I think the key thing that was missing in the pirates announcement was that it was temporary and not a permanent arrangement. I think your point (correct me if i'm wrong) is that factions shouldn't be able to block-off a system on a permanent basis and I agree with ya there.

Honestly.. I'd love to see em try to invade and control a captol system when they're hated by the military and police of all houses... :)

Besides, how the hell can you lay claim on a system that is already owned?

Youre right. As long as Im given access to all the systems in the game, I can live with the occasional pirate attack or forced taxation.
