The /lockdown command doesn't really do anything to the lanes/gates, to avoid any programming issues it may bring; instead, it simply broadcasts a console message "TRADE LANES IN XX SYSTEM ARE UNDER POLICE LOCKDOWN - (insert here the name of the player that did it)", and then everyone that ignores it and uses them gets an ooRP sanction. A message for lockdown end would be required as well.
This would also allow the police to use the tradelanes during lockdowns, since they would have the access codes to bypass the lock.

What do you think?
How about we just leave it to the game mechanics instead of handing out over9000 sanctions.
Im not even going to talk about how such a command could be abused
I'd say forget tradelanes and only make it lock jumpgates and docking rings/pylon-things. That way it is harder to escape, but not impossible and prevents smugglers from quickdocking if they're stupid enough to get spotted.
And lane hackers should totally get their own /lockdown command for the jumpgates in their ZOI in the independent systems.
If there was a way to locking a *player* instead of a radius it would be better.
Like, the police officer uses /lockdown in a targeted pirate, and he is unable to dock with anything for 2 min, but everyone else can go on with their lifes.
I find it a really good idea.
But also, something like in the SP campaign could be made.
Remember when you become the most wanted, try to escape and an enemy navy cruiser is blocking the lane? You try to dock with the lane, but it says dock denied. That block could be made.
i dont see why people are having such a hard time about the command disabling trade lanes, have you all spent as much time as i have as a police officer? 240+ hours
when smugglers, silent traders, hostile mercs, pirates and general scum are using the lanes to escape from you in your own house space its probably one of the most anoying things ever, a criminal should not be able to outfox a police officer using their own tradelanes, thats what jumpholes are for.
/lockdown should be given to everyone with Official Police tags IFF and ID BPA, LPI, RFP, GRP, KSP for tradelanes, gates, bases and planets owned by the faction, just like the Cap vs Trader rule, you want the ability to do somthing you should be able to do anyway? join the official faction.
you dont see indie police players, you see boatloads of indie navy vessels.
official police factions need more weight, or they will all soon be dead.
please dont just stand by and say "it will be abused" and not demonstrate how it can be abused if only given to people in the official factions, whom are monitored closely by there superiors (i know i am)
given to every Tom Dick and Harry then yes, you will have people only using the police profile to use the power it grants you -in your own space-
which is why i said, official faction only players, and used the Capital ship versus Trader rule for an example.
only OFFICIALLY tagged warships are allowed and trusted to not abuse the rule and can deal with traders in accordance to the laws of their house.
so shouldnt it be right for OFFICIALLY tagged police vessels to be allowed and trusted not to abuse this power and can manipulate their space to work for them to give them the edge over the common criminal?
I'm talking mainly about Liberty in the respect as that is where I have the most experience in playing.
I have to agree with Hidamari here in at least one respect. As it is now, LPI and the LN pretty much have the exact same jobs, only difference is LN can go off to fight Rheinland and LPI can't, that's why I switched from Indie LPI to Indie LN just recently, you just can do more (still using Liberator!). As it stands, LPI is completely useless for anything other then RP purposes, and even then you're limiting yourself in where and when you can defend liberty.
Though to be honest the Lockdown thing is kinda pointless. With the whole run 10k away and your considered "dead." Hit them a couple times with Dibilitators and laugh them out of system when they tradelane away. If it's some giant junker ship that you cant scratch, there's always at least one gunboat somewhere in system that is more then happy with killing smugglers.
The Lockdown idea is nice in concept, but its easier to just let Liberty know whose being a bother. They wont be able to show their faces near tradelanes ever again without being blasted by a dozen trigger happy LN who are always lurking about. Even if they run, its still considered a kill at 10k.
Oh and abuse can be almost anything an Indie player does. Just because you're in an official faction doesn't mean you can't be a complete jerk online.

Best way to contact me is AIM, NOT skype (rarely have it on)
Not sure if this was mentioned by anyone because I lost interest after page 2.
say LPI member has said button option. Said LPI member gets on his pewpew pirate char. Said pirate char pirates near a lane and stops a trader...pirate uses /lockdown to his advantage vs the trader...yus? abuse-able to the max...even in "trusty" hands.
