But now I'm getting sidetracked. This discussion is about nomad/wilde faction balance, not about individual behavior.

[font=Comic Sans Ms]I have. Once a true nom nom gave me liquid cardi. Anouther played remote-controlled spaceship with me. 2 Wilde let me go once with 5 minutes of play.

And then I've been blown up many times by both groups with very little text-based play prior. Point is, depends on the character and player on the other side of the world, your character and...yeah, faction.

Dun' be a Junker (or, idk, certain other groups) and hope to have Nomads / Wilde play nice with you. Dunno why...they just don't.

I've RP'd with a wilde before, was in a gunboat, if I remember correctly.
That really creapy lookin' Wilde gunboat.

I talk to him while he inquired about my cargo, in a nommish way.

I gave him some random peneal amulet i found and one unit of optronics i was transportin' to new london.

He was a good sport, left me be, as i was honest in givin' him some items of inquiry.

' Wrote:Okay, I'll try to be transparent here, since I sat in on some discussions about the Nomad ID.

The nomad ID is no ot going to become an open ID because the admins say so. Not the dev team. Not the faction. Not the player base. Sure as hell not because someone wants to try it. Jes specifically said a long time ago that the terrorist ID should go away - and effectively the way the Nomad ID is written, it's a terrorist ID. And since you can't re-write the Nomad ID without stripping it of what they represent - a group that's hostile to EVERYONE in Sirius (except certain Outcasts and the Wild) - it's going to remain a closed ID.

Do you really want URUSS)))) Nomads running around, because that's what you'd have? Seriously, anyone remember what happened on the event server when we played out the Core / Order battle of Toledo? (That ended with Yuri in his unstoppable Nomad ship blowing up Toledo?) Let me refresh your memories ... http://discoverygc.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=72115

Thank you for being candid. The admins have spoken.

I read about 26 pages of the Core/Order/Keeper thread before my eyes began to glaze over. The thread doesn't seem to be germane to this discussion, since the thread in question dealt with folks complaining about capspam, loadouts and rules in a particular event.

' Wrote::lol:The trick is to find a trader character you enjoy RP'ing (and a ship you enjoy piloting) - makes trading less tedious. I don't even use the most profitable ships nor the most profitable trade routes, and I still made enough money to have a bunch of snubs, a couple of caps and two CAU VIII's (although I just lost one by dropping it in space the other day) + wasted a huge amount of money before I learned about the ship sale here on the forum. And I have enjoyed most of my time trading, it hasn't just been "Go to" / "Dock" all the way.

Truth be told, I often go above/below plane, and I mostly trade on my Junker ship and thus have a habit of being less exposed to piracy compared to Ore haulers, but I have also tested out different corporation ships/trade routes with no problems at all. Just stay away from Ore trading, as most lolpirates make their money lolmining, so they know what to do to extort miners/ore haulers. Personally I rarely had trade runs that didn't turn out profitable, and that is even considering the fact that I run a somewhat risky trade route.

Oh, certainly. I use a Bison myself. But when you're trying to work towards a goal (particularly when that goal is keeping you from doing what you -actually- want to be doing) there's a lot of incentive to do it in the quickest, most efficient way possible. Roleplaying a trader can be fun - but only for so long. Eventually the roleplay becomes as tedious as the route. And changing your route/cargo might often mean also changing your ship/ID because of all of the cargo restrictions these days (looking at you, Rheinland). Ironically now that I've discovered how much more efficient trading ore is, I'm having much more fun roleplaying with the miners. Plus, I'm getting pirated a lot less. Once I get north of Berlin and into Kusari, there are no pirates to be found despite the huge value of the cargo I'm hauling. It's literally more than twice as fast to earn money trading ore than it is trading regular goods.

Point is, if trading normal stuff during the day was as profitable as trading ore at night, I wouldn't have any qualms at all about hiring escorts to protect me against increased piracy or nomnoms.

***Warning***
Personal opinion incomming

As an member of K'hara faction.
I dont log that much because its <epic sarcasm> totaly fun to see Rogues, Hackes, Xenos, Police, Navy, Order and BHG cooperating just to hunt down ONE nomad across as much as 8 systems(just happened to me once) even into hostile territory. And its even more fun to be shot at with one line engagement notice (note that "one line" doesnt even mean one full sentence) IF there is a notice or RP at all. </epic sarcasm>

As for current nomad tech.
LF was nerfed quite considerably. Currently it is a HF with seriously lacking arnaments.
VHF is quite okay-ish, slightly above average VHF but its very skill dependant.
Bomber is and always was rather mediocre.
GB is rather okay. Its is good versus other GBs and Cruisers however thanks to turrets low refire, it is somewhat worse against fighters and bombers. Also, its not exactly the smalles one around - Big from any angle.
Cruiser have slightly highter speed and recently got its LM equivalent but i cannot comment on that one because i have yet to see one fly in .86 (maybe i will make one).
Marduk is cool, 'nuff said.

AND, note that Nomads dont have ANY cap missiles as far as i know.

As for opening nomads. No... Pretty much all reasons have been said and i take admin side here, as in, i am against.

I honestly don't see where all the negativity is coming from. This is a brilliant idea. It not only opens the Nomad faction to those who cannot quite commit to the time required for joining K'Hara, but also adds that brilliant aspect of something greater than just the everyday routine of 'make money, buy ship, make more money, buy bigger ship'. With the introduction of a more spatially diverse Nomad faction players would have opportunity to use that 'bigger ship' for more than just a measure of personal awesomeness.

Also with one of the primary focus' of Discovery's storyline being the ongoing Nomad war and infiltration, shouldn't players be seeing more of the Nomad's immense armada than the odd fighter patrol in the Omicron systems?

I would love them to be opened...

But the sheer number of people that would go that route to just satisfy PvP would generate a massive load of sanction reports for lack of RP...

You could create a limited ID (similar to Nomad Trial ID but less restricting with ships...)

to help alleviate... like "Can only attack those in ____, _____, and ____ systems"

People will try to satisfy their desire for PvP one way or another.

Make nomads restricted to certain systems, and allow them to attack without RP.

If you dont like silently attacking nomads, stay out of those systems. There are more than enough other systems to choose from.

I'd rather have silently attacking nomads in nomad systems than people desperately trying to PvP in New York with crumby RP.

I think the fear that they will spill out of those systems is exagerated. People who break rules break rules in every other faction they are in. A nomad out of his ZOI is the most easy to report and prove violation there is. If you are still fearful, I wonder if a powercore nerf can be made to depend in what system the person using the ID is in.

Maybe we should repeat all arguments again for the 5th time! How's that for an idea. The procedure to get this done has been mentioned more then once in this thread. Repeating the same 5-6 arguments over and over and over again isn't going to change -anything-, no matter how good or bad they are.
