I think I've got my borderworld trader about where I want him to be rep wise (friendly to the lawful houses of Liberty and Kusari...Neutral to Rheinland and Bretonia (due to war and RP character issues I don't often enter either one) and perhaps most importantly...friendly to the Corsairs but not flashing a Corsair tag.
Being able to enter Corsair space and dock at their bases is important to my RP as a Liberty ex-pat who sees a "friendly" house tag as a convenient facade to make himself useful to the Corsairs that he owes a debt of gratitude to, being able to procure house items for them from places that their own people may not be able to go.
So in essence I've essentially set up a "Corsair Sympathizer" that can help them with supplies and the like from the core worlds. Nothing illegal, so no "smuggling" per se. Just the basic necessities of life that are so hard to come by in that corner of space and yet so abundant in the core worlds. The RP wouldn't be "unlawful" in product, but in destination.
What I have:
IFF --> Whatever corporation I've been doing runs for mostly when I started. Still trying to get it to stop flashing DSE. Might have to go kill a few freelancers and then double bribe my way in with them and /droprep DSE.
ID --> Independent Trader.
Ship --> Kusari Bumblebee at the moment, but saving up for a border world transport more fitting the RP.
I guess my question is two-fold.
1) In order to run this RP, is an Independent Trader ID acceptable or do I have to go for the Corsair ID tag. I would rather keep it Independent as flashing a big bright Corsair signal would effectively negate the entire purpose of my RP.
2) Of the three player factions of Corsairs, which would be the best to contact to strike a deal in this regard? All three separately? Or choose one faction and stick to their territories. Corsair politics being what they are, would the RP work better with only one faction, or are they cohesive enough to have a deal with all of them. (Which would add more drama is the question I guess). This is the important one because having a green light with NPC Corsairs don't mean anything if you don't have the support of the real folks you're RP'ing with.
Thanks for reading. If it's a ridiculous RP idea, feel free to let me know. If there are suggestions for improvement, same thing.
I feel this is a perfectly good idea. The only thing is how will the faction that are hostile to Corsair feel about you being a "Corsair Sympathizer". I guess you might end up being hostile to them.
Now to your questions
1. Go with Smuggler ID, Corsair ID will lead to trouble when entering lawful bases and I think Independent Trader ID can't land at unlawful bases (correct me if I am wrong here)
2. Contact all Corsair player factions. You might have to show that you are an actual sympathizer, just showing them a green rep won't work. You might to make shipments to their bases or maybe assist in other activities.
And above all be patient, even if you succeed in getting it done you still might end up being being blown up / pirated by independent corsairs. It will take time and lots of RP effort but it can eventually work out.:)

Information, the first principle of warfare, must form the foundation of all your efforts. Know, of course, thine enemy. But in knowing him do not forget above all to know thyself. The commander who embraces this totality of battle shall win even with inferior force.

Wrong here. It can land at either lawful or unlawful, and it may work better for disguising yourself in lawful space.
Contacting the Council of Elders is your best bet, though. Independent Trader or Freelancer ID, Freelancer or otherwise neutral IFF (lawful will make indie Corsairs a bit suspicious).
The Corsair factions seem rather unified most of the time, and going through the Elders will save you time, effort, and hassle.

Not really actually.
Corsairs let friendly freelancers even live among them. Or fly together under one banner as long as they don't mate with corsairs.
Yes, simply contact Corsair council of Elders if you want to have a deal with entire Corsair NPC faction.
But also you can run individual deals. For example brining goods for Black Sails, namely Cadiz / Eta you'll get special status among the Sails. Of course all these deals and goods you bring should be registred and showed in forum rp sections. In appropriete channels.
If you want a deal, contact the Corsair Council since they represent the official factions.
A Freelancer ID would suffice and give you ambiguity wheras an Independent Trader ID might attract the wrong attention from criminals. Also, beware of Corsair independents as there's a good chance that they'll still rob you, sympathiser or not.
Yeah, if you are looking to trade as a House lawful with the Corsairs, your best bet is to send a transmission to the Elder Council stating who you are, what you want, what you fly, etc.
Also, if you are flying a Kusari Transport, you may want to think about using a Kusari corporate IFF as a cover (more specifically, Samura), as Samura, and their side of the Kusari political devide is on neutral-friendly terms with the Corsairs. Just a thought.

its a thing you will have to deal with. but just tell the council, they will talk to the pilots.
like casero a few days back, when he skyped me about 2 cruisers troubling his samura. luls were had.
This is so very true. Carrying food into Crete and undocking with artifacts, some indie was on the verge of shooting me when my BDS escort piped up. I've been assured that the next time this happens, I will be mailed the offender's genitalia, but still... it's rough.
Nothing wrong with being a Corsair sympathizer, but as said by others, I recommend talking to the Council of Elders if you want people to not shoot you.
