In that news article, a man is filing a lawsuit against a gaming company for not warning him that the game could be addictive . .

Personally, I think he is just trying to make some easy money. But this brings up a bit of a legal question.

During the 1980's, game makers put warnings in the game manuals to warn people with epilepsy that seizures could occur due to flashing lights and patterns on the screen. Several lawsuits were filed against game makers, and it even continues today.

So, the question is, as silly as it seems: Does the man in the news article above have a legal right for compensation?

I'm suing Igiss. Nowhere in the mod description did it say that Discovery would be so addictive.

You have to be joking; right?

If he wins... Well...

I liked the comment below it about how he is too addicted to the Game to wash or sleep, and yet not addicted enough not to go to court and attempt to sue the company.

Not the most convincing argument I have ever heard.

hehe, one more thing an american is suing someone for. A psycological addiction shouldn't be something you can sue someone for

in america - you can sue a fast food company for selling food you ate - and got fat from.

what those people don t realize is, they basicly say "i am too dumb to know that fat food makes me fat!"

but in the case of videogames it is not THAT easy. it is a rather recent developement that the society realized addictions to videogames ( while addiction to gaming is rather old though ) - mostly, cause only recently, videogames are played by older people than just teens.

people have to realize that a videogame addiction can be as serious as a narcotics addiction. people loosing their social connections, becoming estranged to friends, finding excuses to play their game, letting games become more important than real life.

not something to make fun about really. in japan, studies showed that a significant portion of the generation became considerably less efficient when it came to pro-active behaviour for the whole country ( especially in terms of economical output ) - and that is when its perceived as a serious problem i daresay.

Stupid as hell, really. Lineage II isn't that addicting to begin with, and at this rate, the guy might as well sue the sun if he burns when going outside for the first time in weeks to go to court. Things like epilepsy warnings are good, but suing over supposed addiction? That's just messed up. Dude needs a rehab clinic. Or just to get outside once in a while.

The correct word is addictive.

Funny you say Liberals. I don't see how it has a damned thing to do with liberalism. Could you explain how it does? I'm mystified...

When you've been up for something around 23 hours, the correct word is irrelevant.

Do they have these warning labels on Cigarettes, Achohol and various forms of medication as well?

Hell, some men probably need a warning label on their penis warning them it's addictive to play with.

Grow up, America, stop expecting everyone to hold your hand and tell you the stove is hot.
