they can't be found in windows explorer OR disk manager. when i plug in my flash drive to one, it lights up and my computer makes the "ba-dump!" nice like it knows it got plugged in. the light on my flash drive turns on at first but turns off right away, like the computer isn't reading the drive. i tried plugging in my mp3 player, and i got the same response. it charged my player, but it didn't read it. please help. anything i missed feel free to ask.
tried that. no flash drive works in the front, and though the back ones show up in "my computer", they don't do anything when a drive - or my mp3 player - are plugged in.
Well, that must mean that the power cable is connected to your USBs fine, but the data cable must have a break in it or somthing. If you can, see if the cables are loose at either end, grab a soldering iron, and solder them back on. Chances are though, that you might just have to buy a USB hub and plug it into USB which does work.
arg my parents wont appreciate me openin up the computer. i'll try it if nothing else works though. i posted the same thread on cnet too, and theyr usually pretty good
if youve tried all the above things, and they dont work. you can buy a usb card and plug that into a PCI slot, thatll give you a few usb slots in the back.
(If you find any mistake in my English, please let me know via a PM)
(Really, I speak terrible English, so please, tell me if I make mistakes. I'd like to improve it a bit )
not an expert on hardware, but are you 100% sure your usb stuff aint corrupted? happened to an old flashdrive of mine, pain in the *** to fix... Thats why I rarely use my flash drive (Until recently):P
also, do you have anything like a usb mouse or keyboard to try in the slot? That could confirm if its a problem with your drives.
i've checked my flash drives on other computers, and they're fine. plugging in a mouse is a good ieda. i'll post the results.
edit: the mouse worked, no storage device has so far. i've tried 2 different types of sandisk flash drives, a sony flash drive, my creative zen mp3 player and my dad's sansa mp3 player.
