I think my tendency with 'Freelancerish' is more with the texturing of the vessels and less with the actual shape. I believe there's a certain style to how the ships' platings look, and that is where I tend to notice ships seeming 'out of place' ... The Homeworld ships are especially out of place due to the low resolution, low-detail nature of their textures.
Freelancer textures tend to have good detail, sure... however, they also have repeating 'plating' patterns, as well, right?
Currently: Remastering Kiith Somtaaw's Acolyte Fighter. These Homeworld ships need some Sirius work done on them. ^.-
"Do not interfere! We're here to protect the President! Schultzky's a traitor!"
For peace throughout the colonies! We will never forget..
"He who controls the [insert orange powder drug here] controls the universe!"
I think about what is meant by that, that some ships or other commodities just don't fit into this game, this mod... you're not going to put in a flying paperclip for example (extreme example yes)
All ships in this mod are low polygon so they are a bit blocky and not perfectly round like in the newer games... if you go put a extremely good modelled model into this game it would just not fit between the other ships... A nice example is the marshflyer... its a alien ship from an unknown species (( which is just not there in this game)) but well that should be unfreelancerish, and to keep this mod the discovery mod we keep into the freelancer style
In my opinion Freelancerish is how the ship is, 1.0 ships all have generaly bulky designs even the thiner bits of the ships where still kind of thick, compare this to some of the newer ships which have very thin and pointed parts.
A perfect example of a ship that is Freelancerish is the Liberty gunboat, as far as I am concerned that ship could have been in 1.0 (the only reaason I know it is not is the lack of a wireframe) the Rheinland bomber is also a Freelancerish ship along with a few others. (though as I said the Liberty gunboat is the best fitting ship)

I've been mildly miffed by one-shot weapons since their implementation, oh so long ago. I remember the days when fights were a matter of who could aim better, rather than who could aim a single shot. - Virus
'Freelancerish' means that the ship looks like, or very close to, a thing that microsoft could have included in 1.0.
If it is from a different show, movie, game etc, it is usualy non FLish because it would NEVER have been put in Vanila.
The Rheinland bomber and the Liberty gunboat FLish because they LOOK like something that belongs in vanilla, if microft had seen those designs, i am betting my lifes savings they would have taken them, and added wireframes etc to include them.
And to asnwere templars question, if the 'sabre' seris never existed, and the Viper did, then the Viper would be more FL'ish then the sabre series.
To sum it up again; If it looks like it could belong in vanilla, its 'Freelancerish'
According to the storyline of Freelancer, the whole civilization in Sirius is still advancing, exploring and upgrading as they go along... ships having bulky designs then falls within the storyline.
My only pain is the X-Shuttle... I mean come on !! The ship doesn't even have a hud... and it's... green !! It stands out like a gangrene-infested thumb in FL...
think of it this way; If it has smooth contours, it doesnt belong in FL:laugh:
No, seriously, you can rule out most TV shows and such, as these obviously just dont fit in. But other ships, like say Huegnaut kinda fit in, because as it says in info card, it looks as if it was based off a sleeper ship.
