Because I'm a bit OCD some ways, I've taken to figuring out energy efficiency statistics for guns. This is simple, you just divide the energy per second by the damage per second, and the lower the number, the better the efficiency is. It is time consuming however.
I'm wondering if it would be worth it to post this information on the wiki. Thoughts, anyone?
EDIT: Particularly looking for feedback from the people who worked on the weapons section of the wiki

Your time not mine, help yourself. Statistical data is always good to have for comparisons.

Whatever makes my life easier when deciding on weapons choice, go right ahead. That's only if you want to however, but I'm just sayin' that it'd be helpful to a number of people.

Personally I go with damage per energy unit and simply divide damage per shot by energy per shot. It'll surprise you how poor some weapons perform in that department...

Aeternus, that won't take refire rate into account. A plasma cannon gets a lot more recharge time then a laser does, generally speaking. Unless you first multiply the damage and energy per shot by the refire rate of the gun (which is all the damage per second and energy per second columns in the wiki are), your figures are inaccurate.

Considering the harsh restrictions on gun usage, I find statistics like these to be utterly pointless. Sure, it might be interesting to know how much your Gaia's Angels suck compared to Kraken IIs, but you'll never have anything better to use on your Gaian so you just have to suck it up and use what weapons your faction was given.

Comparisons in weapons are only useful when you're given the option of which gun to use. The majority of factions do not get that choice.

I take the shot values for both energy use and damage applied. The result is exactly the same, since the energy expended is also deducted only when a shot is fired. Go ahead and calculate it if you wish: Damage divided by energy usage should in all cases equal damage per second, divided by energy per second. I've found that the per second values were already rounded, so the shot values were more accurate to use.

Most people have access to at least the civilian guns, and their own faction weapons. The comparison does have merit in this sense: You can see what's what, and make your decision based on that. These comparisons become even more useful for transport and capital craft turrets, since you have a wider selection available to all in those.

I have done these calculations of CODENAMES in exel. Not hard, just a little time consuming as I had to manualy input the values. But you should calculate - damage divided by energy, so that bigger value means better efficiency (damage per energy)

Oh man some math ain't to hard.

Example:

Damage a second / Energy a second = no.

Skyblast B:
8.33 - Refire rate
65 - Energy per shot
1,933 - Hull D/S
967 - Shield D/S
542 - Energy per second

1933 / 542 = 3.5664...

MagmaHammers V:
2.00 - Refire rate
195 - Energy usage
2,020 - Hull D/S
1,010 - Shield D/S
390 - Energy per second

2.020 / 390 = 5.1794...

The higher the number the better effeciency
Although it's only when you hit all your shots so it still depends on your aim.

-------------------------------------------------

But actually the only thing you need to do is to order the list on energy a second on wiki

So actually it's already on the wiki.
Only think you need to do is to order the list on energy a second.
You haven't understood what is suggested. They were talking about a number that defines how efficient the weapon is.
For example:
ARCHANGEL does 6.6 dmg per energy unit
CLAYMORE 8 dmg per energy unit
...
EDIT: I see you edited the post, and yeah, that's exactly what they were discussing.
