Love you little broski, but shut up about things you don't understand. There is going to be ONLY one person issuing any orders to Indies, me. Until such time as you prove yourself ready for the responsibility. This is not "Order him and her about" nor are Indies being granted ids for you to lord special privilege over them. Until further notice your 2IC FR2/FR5 powers are revoked. You want them back you show me you're ready for them.

Unacceptable.

So now you are punishing Aphil because he is telling people to RP Coalition when they choose to get a Coalition ID......

seriously?

Well, I just woke up from a good nights sleep and reading back on my posts, it probably wasn't a good idea to make them at 2:30 AM while fired up about this issues. :$I also could of worded it much better, and I apologize that I sounded so... well, you get the idea.

What I meant by orders, and there seems to be a misunderstanding to this, I meant things like combat orders and just general orders. Like "Intercept this target, attack this target" and so on, orders in-game, not orders on how to run their faction or anything like that. I also did completely misunderstood what FR2 was for, and so with my new knowledge, my comments seem silly.

Quote:We'll treat Coalition Indies just like we'd treat SCRA Members, that however also comes with responsibility on the part of the indies. You will get respect, and be treated as we'd treat any other SCRA Member but we expect you to act like an SCRA Member and follow the command structure that has been in place for years.

I still feel this is applicable though. Once again, I apologize if I seemed rude.:(

To further explain my vague request - most official faction members use the terms reserve or secondary as insults to indy players and neither term really makes sense from a role play perspective. From a organizational one? Sure, due to how Disco operates.

Anyways, good luck Alvin and the rest of the SCRA. This was a large step for you all and I hope it works out how you wanted it too.

Hmm... why not call the primary fleet or original SCRA members somewhere along the lines of Guards or Red Guards? Something like that....

But calling indies Militisiya works just as well.... :)

Hi I like this idea of differentiation, but why dont you make this mandatory for all factions? I am going to shamelessly quote myself from a thread regarding the level of excellence put forth in the RP of pirates, traders, miners etc.:

' Wrote:Alright what if ppl needed to register in the forum when they want a transport with more than 3600 units? At least they would have a forum account.

Also what if a mandatory cap ship registry was re-introduced, but instead of making it official faction only, make it into an auxiliary fleet with a code of conduct (with very few limitations) under direct administration of the respective official factions? That way the official factions can recruit competent cap pilots directly into their ranks (and thus eliminate the problem some experience with having to "take a step backwards" equipment-wise when joining an official faction at the same time).

I'm not suggesting that these two steps will improve all encounters, but it would help on some. Also it would be an incentive for players to act excellent even when they are saving up for their battleship.

It would put a leash on indies to some extent (seeing that they have to register and at least have an idea of a character or crew they want to roleplay and what the faction they play in is all about) whilst also in the long run give indie players more stuff to do in relation to the story line and the RP of official factions.

I believe this could be done without infringing too much on indie players' options. I might be a fool for thinking this, but I do believe that lol-actions quite often stem from lack of knowledge, rather than lack of good intentions.

Registrations are not only the first step on the long and bloody path of futility they carry a dark tone which resonates strongly in the hearts of all who find that their participation with the same will be... Mandatory.

Registration. It's enough to set the heart a shudder.

However with a coat of sugar and magic you can turn that dark and terribly registry into a repository of biographies via the SCRA Dossier Directory! Simply provide a template and several examples to get the ball rolling and see who deposits what into the sparkling box of "This is my guy and I'm pretty proud of it I was gonna make a ruskie but then I read up that another guy had a guy who was a Leeds refugee and another guy had a Zoner who decided he wanted to follow the Premiers vision for a secure borderworld and another guy was not a stereotype so now I made my dude and this is something about him thanks for providing this space and template!!!1!1".

Just a fanciful notion.

But avoid registries. Always.

Edit: Clearly this is simply opinion. But one well grounded in a long spell of observation.

Thanks dusty for making me lose my breath while reading the last sentence.

I agree btw.

I had a long winded post going but Dusty pretty much nailed it there.

I'd also like to say that I appreciate how you are handling the situation, Alvin. One thing that gets under my skin is the tendency to exclude or look down on independent players.

Maybe you are right. I do see that maintaining a registry might be a hassle and that it could be abused by official factions too. But I also think a solution to this can be found.

I just feel that the general level has gone down on this server - I am tired of OS&C indies in Cruise Liners refusing to pay pirates 500.000 credits and save the lives of thousands of tourists onboard, and retaliating by saying "imma gonna hunt you down in mah dread" (happened to me half an hour ago). Or indie 'Sairs novaing a junker tradeship to death with 1 word of warning and then docking at Junker bases merrily afterwards (happened to me yesterday). Or indie Outcasts taxing a junker ship full of Malta-bound slaves in Tau-37 (happened some time ago).

Let's face it, all new players want a capship, that is their goal. If they knew that getting/having one entailed having to meet certain criteria (EDIT: I mean really basic criteria, like drafting a background or filling out a template with crew and an outline of the ship's purpose/aim etc. - and with the new locked tags feature, I think it could be carried out rather easily in-game, so it would be easy to spot those who have registered and those who havent), I think that would reflect on the general level of excellence across the board. Plus it would tie players in closer to the official factions, without forcing them to join, and I think that would also be a postive thing.

So has this actually been implemented yet or is it still just a discussion thing?

On the whole I feel that this view is somewhat cynical, then the cynical center of my brain reminds me that wisdom is often called cynicism by those who do not have it.

While there is an extremely robust variety of persons who slide into our server, from persons who're simply looking for a good time, to people who observe that this server is the fullest and therefor where they're going to go, to people who go "Ah ha, I roleplay in what's actually a kind of racist stereotype environment... Eff it RP I'll be a Hogosha Whee." with, again, a pretty robust variety of resulting interactions. Often of rather shifting degrees of quality.

Though I'll raise a finger at your notion concerning new players. There's cynicism and then there's blind antipathy and coupled with a robust appetite for demonization.

That all being said, registries for open IDs are still optional, but are generally trumpeted as simultaneously a tool for and against the ability to free float an idea free of the constraints levied by an individual rather than the looser bounds instilled by the fictional backdrop. The combination of optional, prone to generate resentment and, while a minor but poignant issue, the difficulty of ensuring proper maintenance all come together to leave registries as something of a poor idea when put into practice.

Again, just my opinion
