I was referring to their location. Basically, I'm trying to draw parallels between the ability of denying a ship to dock with a base which can be spawned -anywhere- and taking down a lane. Which is an argument that crawled out of my behind, I don't know if that's what the dev team were aiming at.;)
EDIT: and all other points could be answered with: well, you were told in advance bases are supposed to be giant cash black holes.
You were talking about balance. From this compare, NPC bases are totally unbalanced. Of course, players can count with player base as a big black hole. They know it in advance. But they didn´t know about this change (btw - I don´t have base). Until now, they got two things: stuff that you can´t buy anywhere in game (cloaks, jumps, docking modules) and a place where they can save themselfs. What is unbalanced of it where it cost lot of time and money to maintain it? Now, they got only that stuff, no more shelter when are attacked.
As I said before, only result will be that all bases will be more hidden. No more trading bases, no more lawful outposts. More players who don´t trust anybody so they will run their base alone or only with few friends. I think this is a bad way.
Just to be clear - I like the rest of things about bases and I appreciate devs work very much. I just think that shield docking blocking is a bad decision.

Good night.
Unfortunately I concentrated on your most glaring idiocies.
Tell me a part I ignored, and you'd like a reply for.
Just a point - if somebody is shooting at your base - why don't you undock with the other base admins and kill them? Hire mercs to do it for you? Have weapons platforms to kill them. 2 weapons platforms will see off most caps.
This is the way you stop them blockading the base.
I will restate: if you are trying to run a base by yourself and you are bitching about this - too damn bad. Bases are not intended to be run by individuals but rather groups. If you succeed in doing it by yourself, cool. You have great negotiation skills to convince other people to supply the base or a lot of free time.
I will also restate: The rebalanced base in this update requires fewer commodities on average rather than more because unless your base is under continuous attack, the shield will stay off.

NPC bases are indestructible. Player bases are destructible and even gets automatic damage despite on where they are build so needs maintaining.
NPC bases don´t need supplies. Player bases need amount of supplies as hell especially when they are not hidden or in hot spot so shield is very often on.
NPC bases have endlessly amount of commodities which are made from nothing. Player bases need to by supplied by commodities to have chance to sell them, which cost money or/and time.
NPC bases don´t have running costs. Player bases have running costs as hell and make them profitable is very uneasy because there must be one sell/buy price.
New feature- you can dock at NPC base while it is under attack. You can´t dock at player base while is under attack.
Well, what exactly on this is balanced?!
I couldn't have put it better myself !
Except; if you're Green with the base then you can dock Q.E.D. !
No docking while shield up with the possibility of shooting the base just to prevent others to dock does promote nothing but trolling.
If you want to make em hard to maintain raise how many goods are consumed or simply make shields not being undestroyable.
-raise good consuming
-make shields getting dmg
-give shields high regeneration rate
-remove "shields up = no dock" trollfeature
-allow caps to shoot blockaderunning traders during a siege 3k next to the station.
The base commodities usage has been revised, in short the updated behaviour is:
Bases use more repair commodities like hull panels, robotics and basic alloys
Bases use less shield fuel commodities because the shield will turn off automatically.
More commodities used per day for maintenance (from ~8 to 10k) but base takes damage more slowly (level 1 base can survive ~60 hours without repair). Base manufacturing and construction are slower by 1/3 but use the same quantities of goods.
Well.. I guess... okay. Technically the repair stuffs are cheaper than the shield fuel.
Quote:The shield will automatically deactivate after a random period of time in the range 1-16 minutes and docking whilst the shield is up is blocked to all ships.
Cannon I <3 you but this is obnoxious. Our base gets hit by overspray from nearby NPC fights all the time. Now we're going to get constantly locked out of our base.
Quote:Weapons platforms take damage when the base shield is up and are destroyable although they will be respawned automatically after 15 seconds.
Waitasecond. I'm not sure what you mean. Do you mean "Weapons platforms can take damage even when the shield is up" or "Weapons platforms constantly take damage while the shield is up"?

Player bases have the players to supply and operate them. They have players to defend them. How many NPCs do you see docking at player bases?
So how do you protect your base against passers by who shoot it for no real reason other than the fact that they can? I really don't like the idea of my members being locked out of our base for a quarter of an hour because a troublemaker in a CSV took a potshot when no-one was looking.
