How much would it cost to expand the current server to say, 400 people?
I ask because I just spent a half hour refreshing the list waiting for a log in slot.

its can't be done, not because of the cost, but freelancer can't handle a server with more than 200 people. I don't know the exact reason, but some ICT guru will soon pop up and explain it I think

"Search Button"

EDIT: Sorry for a sec I thought this was flood.

Use the Search button at the top right corner for an explanation to the reasoning behind the 200 cap.

Currently FLserver can't handle above some 228 players. But the limit with running it on a single machine is the computing power of 1 CPU core.

The cost of buying Freelancer's sourcecode off Micro$haft so we can modify it to support more players = a lot.

It would be easier if Microsoft released the source code.
Yes, I wonder how much would it cost.

Single core application, mh? The later generation multicore processors (both AMD and Intel) offer a boost function if only one core is under load. Might want to look into altering server hardware if more performance is required. The drawback is the money... it needs to come from somewhere.

I believe its already running on a core i7 already clocked at 3-ish ghz. Turbo mode does help, but not enough for a larger capacity

i975 afaik.

Never heard that the flserver becomes unstable at some load no matter what, only that the current max limit possible with the limit breaking software we use is 228.
