Just out of interest, if the BDs don't play along and 'mothball' their ships, what does the KNF do, sit around twiddling their thumbs until 4.87? (Not that this is going to happen of course) I mean if people don't like the way things are organised and go play in another house or something, since most players have characters in various factions throughout sirius.

I hope not, but we will figure something out. Remember not going against the story line doesn't mean we can't create other RP opportunities.

We will always have tau 23 hopefully.

They give us a guide and tell us "Ok, this is what you guys will do, from there develop it as you want without going against this guide".
That's exactly how it is.
The door is right there if you are unhappy, and unless you are in the =CR= leadership, I think they are working with the dev team on how their faction will work.
I wonder how long would it take for people to understand it.

It has been always like that, it will be always like this. Or anyone here thought that the BAF players decided "ok, let the KNF take over stokes" Of course not, they were given a role, and they played it (damn that they have played it...), learn from BAF, that's all I can say to all the people complaining.

Like Schurbli (spelling) said, sometimes you get good stuff, sometimes you get steamrolled.

KNF kicked BAF's ass.

Now KNF got kicked back to home.

Learn to accept the changes.
It was an example.

Basically I was saying that Zelot said factions don't get to decide at all how they're run, and it's left up to a disinterested party that may or may not be biased (devs.) I don't think that's fair.

Heh, if Gallia tries to invade Liberty they'll receive a 'warm' welcome from the LRF, by way of Bomber Swarm! >: )

I have flown the Gallic LFs and HVFs and they eat Bombers for breakfast, you need fast, highly maneuverable fighters to compete. Don't think that it is all cap ships, Gallia relies on fighter swarms for most things with massive cap ship backup where required.

This.

This topic is funny and sad at the same time.
It shows how bad are the people around in the community. It remembers me why I try to play many possible factions and not to be part of any official ones.
Kids who fight pixel wars in forums. It will be really nice if you are polite with each other and try to understand the others position and point of view.

About the story- it is some-kind of artificial for me.
Witch faction will have more pixel power then other is quite pointless since the said pixel power is not reflected into ship stats, end even then there are eagles/sabres with codes....
It is funny even if faction A is the biggest and most power one in RP, in the real server B have 10 times more members and kick the ass of A all day long...
Get my point?
From my point of view the most powerful factions are those who can bring 5-7 members on-line at the regular basis not only occasionally. And to troll a bit the factions where Sina and his pvp squad are members.
Now you can continue the whole hypocrisy/power/dev/nerf/faxton thing.

Thanks for the discussion. It was a really interesting read (and incomplete for me so far).

Two points.

Xenos

I base my faction estimates on what the factions' alignment in Vanilla was, unless I'm very explicitly informed otherwise. The story was hanging on the dev forums for quite a while before being posted (months, actually), and no one of those who read it ever noted any mistakes in the Xeno part.

However, if you think that something can be corrected - let's correct. What I'm willing to do is to somehow integrate the faction into the Gallic conquest story. The rest is actually up to you, and unless you go way too far from what was in Vanilla (and how actual in-game NPCs behave), it will be acceptable.

Lane Hackers

Honestly, the part about Hackers was written even before we talked about the Vespucci change.

However, I didn't have any incentive to include HF into the Hackers part for several reasons. First of all, Vespucci changes remain strangely unconfirmed. HF are happy, sure, but what about Lane Hackers? What will be their new home, and who will mod this new home into Discovery systems? Questions unanswered, as far as I know. EDIT: Hribek reminded me that they are answered, have to apologize for faulty memory.

So, this part is also open for further consideration. If you think that we still can change Vespucci affiliation, let's change it.

And a few general notes.

CR was mentioned here. Let me share a few thoughts.

CR, year ago or more, said they wanted to become a large faction with bases and stuff. Later, CR first wanted to become a part of a larger "Tau House". Then they wanted to relocate away from Gallia to the opposite end of Sirius, which I had to (or tried to) reject. Just a few weeks ago there was a new proposal from CR side that's perfectly acceptable from modding terms, but tell me this:

considering those mood changes of the leaders, and changes within leadership itself, could I include any parts of CR-related storyline into Discovery 4.85 or now into the history for 4.86?

The answer is "no". It's easier to mod the changes into systems then include a faction into storyline, write in its relations with neighbors, long-term plans... and in several months we get different mood, different affiliation, and even different system.

If player factions want their small story contributions, the answer is: make it simple for us. Inform us. Write your texts that we could include. At least we won't have to spend time on doing something that you might want to change in an instant.

Well, leaving Vespucci was Moriarty's plan for a while. I was under the impression that this intention has been communicated adequately towards you devs. I even heard about a certain *static* that... ahh, disclosing too much, the Senior Professor wouldn't like it. I'll try to reach him soon for him to be able to answer such questions.

I could give a small suggestion for the first question about the new home. I see that there is a spot available, that would be near another Hacker base. Leiden base in Galileo. The spot for the new system could be above Oita, to the right of Hiroshima. Kind of in the same way as Tau-45 and Kepler(location wise).

Xenos fighting the Kusari economy in Bretonia?

Nomads in the hands of the LSF (hopefully)?
