Lets not have an Outcast equal to the Behemoth.. It needs to be more than a rectangular prism (not a box..). Needs more edges and sides, not 6. The Sabre has what, 40+ sides. Each wing has about 18 sides. It turns 3 times from each connection to the body of the ship. That means 2 angles on the wings, and 2 where they connect. Then the wing is 3D with 4 sides. Thats just one wing, the body has a heck of alot more. This one has about 8-12 sides, about 6-10 angles. It needs to be less.. Bland.
its a great design, that doesn t need too much more work, imo. resembles rogue ships very much and thats a great thing, i don t need to scan it when i see it - i know at once what faction it belongs to.
the only critizism i have is - maybe make the front part a bit more gun like? - as it is, it looks very much like a freighter. what i d see fit to a rogue gungoat is :
good armor
good agility
a ton of front arc weapons (basicly a very huge and extremely heavy fighter)
maybe half of the guns should be gunboat guns, half of them lvl10 fighter class guns. (in the end, its not a technical masterpiece like those house gungoats)
so a lot of gun barrals to the front, and an array of "normal" level10 fighter guns firing to the sides, top, bottom, back to back it up. that way, you could for example mount your tough stuff to the front for a good charging run and still fend off fighters about as good as a transport ship.
might add a little more cargo for that then - cause i d say a ship like that might be used for a tough transport convoy and the loot. so instead of 700 cargo - go for 1200 or so.
that way its very different to core house GBs. it would have comparable firepower in its front arc, improved manouverbility, same armor/shields ( don t think its good to make any difference there - apart from maybe lvl7 transport shiels - but that d be a 50% cut to other gungoats, so i guess not fair ), maybe more normal guns ( i think a gunboat has 12 guns? - maybe give a rogue one 6 foreward GB guns and 10 normal guns to different arcs ) and more cargo.
as for the design - no more wings or fins. wings? what for - that thing doesn t look like it could make an atmospheric flight anyway - no matter how many wings you add, it ll just fly like a brick. it sort of reminds me on the reaper style ships of the show "firefly (serenity)" maybe add some more bloodstains and corpses/bodies to the hull haha.
That is actually a great design Doom, good work. It looks very rouge-ish in Freelancer as those screens tell me. Much better than the current rogue gunboat, which would probably fit better as a Bounty Hunter gunboat.
Also, 6 guns is a good amount for a medium gunboat, such as that looks. I am just concerned about the coverage, with half the firepower on the top. Only two of the six guns could cover the bottom left and right of the gunboat. Maybe a little bit of a rethink on the gun mounts would be good, such as only one on the top, but two on the left side and right side, with one on the bottom. This is the only potential flaw I can see with your design. Good job Doom!
Aye, I would happily trade in my current gunboat for this one. It looks sooo much cooler. Cooler than the Liberty or Rhineland gunboats for sure.
I don't think the firing arcs will be too much of a problem. Most arcs of fire get at least 3 turrets, and if this is designed to be a pretty maneuverable gunboat then it shouldn't be sitting still in turret mode all that much anyway.
Anyway, great job. Lets get this submitted to Igiss so we can try it out in the next beta. :D
i mentioned at start that it has same weapon array as rouge GB...3 top, two at sides and one bottom turret...
u have 5 turrets firing on each side....five top...3 down...6 forward and 6 backward...if Igiss keeps its stats as current one in agility department u wont use much turret mode anyway...
and about the beta...in next beta it wont come up for surely...beta 3 maybe...but i need some more community feed back...and name for that ship
:lol:It looks so ugly, that it will be cool. You made a great hit, cause it has character. This is important and makes it more interesting.
I have to agree with the Turret HP. Three on one place is to much. Move one downside or at the top of the bridge, cause the bridge is so mighty and i miss something on top. A turret or some kind of ugly, rusty and damaged looking Antennas or radars.
Oh and make the middle strut of engines a bit bigger as you did on the bridge. One main connection surrounded by a lot of thinner struts.
