GLADIATOR ARENA

Ive given this some thought, as you'll see below. Ive laid out an idea to create a gladitorial arena within the game. The gaming board Ive described below will become a company. Just like repex. System purcase would be great, but I alone do not have enough funding. I would like some feed back and idea's if you take the time to read it all. I know there is a lot here, but I feel like it could bring a new aspect and community into our server. I realize that there already is a PvP server, but this is not going to be anywhere near the scale of that. Please read it and tell me what you think!

GLADIATORS:

Each player creates a new char. Players cannot use this char for any other purpose save for the arena. Each player will be limited on the ship class and equipment he/she may use. This is to ensure that the games are fun and interesting, and that the player with the most skill wins. Players will pay a small entrance fee as an independant gladiator, or may be sponsored by a clan. Clan tags will be allowed in the arena, but will also carry a gladiator tag as well. Players will earn money by winning fights and from spectator gifts. Each players wins and losses will be recorded on a thread created in the appropriate forum. All players should have a mercenary ID. Each player is responsible to obtian own ID. (Remind me to ask someone how to get admins to add a gladiator ID to the game, I'll pay whatever I have to to get it created!:cool:)

Each tournament will produce a Champions. There will be 3 different types of champions. See below:

Free for All Champions: Like it sounds. FFA, only 1 winner. $$$Reward$$$

Squadron Champions: 5v5 player deathmatch. $$$Reward$$$

Duel Champion: The most coveted championship. Winner of this championship reaps the largest Monetary award. Players who enter this Championship is to the death. There will be only one champion. He will claim the right to any fighter of his choice, and in any way he /she wishes to equip it. Largest monetary award. Team Gladiators are allowed to equip as they see fit. MUST BE NEW CHAR!!!

Because of the strong RP I want to obtain with this championship. All players will be forced to delete char if they die. They will have to start a new Gladiator at the next tournament if they would like to compete again.

ALL Gladiators will begin with the stock starflier spacecraft. This will change as reputation grows.

THE ARENA:

I think the best place for the arena would be conneticut, due to the setup of this system. There are several locations that would make for a very interesting fight. Furthermore, events can be set up quickly and rules can be easily defined for the match. Also, it is a good central location for all players leaving out of NY, which is one of the busiest systems in the game.

THE GAMING BOARD:

Several volunteers will be required to create a "gaming board". This body would set up RP events for the games, and define the guidelines for each individual match. Also, there will need to be several players needed to create a "referee" char with a nuetral ID to ensure that the match guidlines are followed. The gaming board will also be responsible for recording each gladiators win / loss records. Lastly, the gaming board will be responsible for setting up a gambling system. ALL players may bet any amount on any match, the Gaming commision will take a 5%-20% commision on each bet. Odds will be determined and announced before the match.

THE RULES:

The rules to each combat will change from match to match. These rules will be decided upon by both the gladiators with the approval of the gaming board (Duels, Grudge matches, etc etc) or rules will be set in place by the board themselves. The rules of the match will be dictated by the amount of players involved, the weapons, sheilds, and armor involved, and the location of the match. Rules will be followed or players wil be banned from gladitorial combat. The gaming board will set all types of matches, from one on one duels all the way to grand melee's. This will be determined by player involvement and availability in the event.

Games will never be held more than BI-monthly, and will be annouced no less than two weeks before the scheduled time, and may be announced by the Gamining commision ONLY! This will allow for maximum player involvement. It will also allow for training time, player signups, so on and so forth.

All gladiators begin with stock starflier spacecraft. This is for RP reasons. Each player will earn his next ship through promotion by the Gaming board. I cannot stress enough that this whole idea is to based around pilot ability! Each player will earn the right to equip his / her ship or upgrade. There will be a ranking system in place. This ranking system will be based of wins and losses.

Each player WILL create a new char, and TAG it with Arena Tag (which has yet to be determined). Anyone who is not appropriate level and shipclass will not be allowed to compete and will forfiet entrance fee.


THE SPECTATORS:

Spectators will be invited to come to ANY scheduled Gladitorial RP event and watch, cheer, and boo as their favorite gladiators fight to the death. They would be encouraged to "throw" gifts to the winning gladiators in each fight, just as in the acient roman arena. Betting is not only allowed but is encouraged! Non participating gladiators may watch future opponents as they fight to develop strategy, encourage friends or try to distract foes! Spectators pay no charge to come to this event. Traders are welcome to sell thier wares in-between matches!

GLADITORIAL SCHOOLS:

Gladitorial schools may register with the gaming commision. These "schools" may be set up by ANY faction or clan. They may tag their fighters to identify the schools, therefore "advertise" the combat skills & abilities of the clan before a large crowd.

IE: The South alliance wants to show the universe that THEY have the best fighters in the universe, so they take the best of thier warriors, and enter them in the arena to face gladitorial combat. Will they make it? Or will it be the UOG? KNF? LSF? HF? who has the best? This is where the different clans may combat each other in a controlled enviroment, without the reprecussions of all out war!


In summary, this could be an extremely fun event to hold on this server. Individual players may make a name for themselves. Clan schools may test thier pilots and guage thier abilities. Fortunes will be made and lost. Entrance cost will be minimal to ecnourage player activity. All players, new and old will face each other on a level playing feild. Champions will be born, and legacies will be created.

Joe, judging by the marked lack of anyone with anything to say, and that in itself is a first ... I would have to
say ... This is a PvP only event, as creation of new chars to compete, takes it outside of most people's RP.
When the betas are completed, give it a go over on the other server.

Could just be that people clicked it, saw a "wall of text" and didn't read it. Being its here and not in flood, they didn't post either;)

I however read it, and it sounds fun. It would be a good RP idea as well, because death sports I'm sure would be looked down upon by house factions and police, and they would probably show up to break up the festivities if it was held in the wrong place.

If people bite the hook here, it could be really fun.

Really guys, this is just the same old idea with a different name...\

Gladiators were forced to compete. In RP, you'd have about 3 guys in all of Sirius that would fight in this, and 2 of them would die.

Looks like you put a lot of thought and effort into that. Valiant effort I must commend you for. But, I just dont think you'll get many takers on it unfortunately. Great idea, but I think most people will just do just as BFH did and point you to the PvP server. Which might not be a bad idea.

allthough that sounds interesting - the reason i play on that server is cause i like the roles, roleplaying - even if being a zoner rather includes being ignored by most.

however - i d not participate in such an event but would pay an entry fee to watch it. (but then, i can aswell hang around at alpha or gamma and watch the "real thing" )

As long as ships and weapon loadouts were strictly controlled, it could be a great way to test skills and earn bragging rights for your gladiator, should you choose to make one.

Well, I do appreciate the fact that there are a few players out there who liked the idea, thanks guys! :)

I don't understand why people think this idea isn't RP. If you RP it, if you enforce RP in that system, it's going to be RP and very likely a good time. As long as ships and weapon loadouts were strictly controlled, it could be a great way to test skills and earn bragging rights for your gladiator, should you choose to make one.
