@Templar : Why does EVERYTHING have to be about BSG?
Allso, if you havnt seen more then 2 of your own battlestars online at the same time...I've faced 4 at the same time once...
Take an example to some long lasting factions, like 101st. One capital ship flown by some of our most advanced pilots. And its only being brought out in verry rare ocasions.
Now yust incase your going to say that : "Our enemies have lots of battleships, so we need them"
Your enemies increase their battleship numbers everytime you increase them, thrust me.
Let's look at this way: There are a lot of factions (too many in my opinion) out there where you can join and fly whatever the hell you like. No! Seriously, there needs to be some sort of restriction on factions. All factions too, House, Police and Pirate factions alike. Hell, i'll do it myself if need be.
Take a look at RM. 2 Admirals = 2 Battleships. The chancellor has decommissioned his BS and is probably being made into some sort of museum now. 2 captains = 2 cruisers. 3 commanders = 3 gunboats. The rest fly wraths and bombers as lieutenants. You will not fly anything higher than your rank allows. Another anomaly about the RM...all ships are Rheinland ships!
Put the big guys in the guard systems. Make mercs fly GB's or lower. Give the bombers back the power to take down capships, cause if not, the capship whoring will be worse than it is now. And it's pretty damn bad now.
I have long been a champion of the fighter pilot. Go back through my posts about capship whoring, fighter nerfing, etc. I fly fighters and one BS. The BS is basically there for looks, other than that it's a big fat target with a bullseye painted on the side. I love big battles composed mainly of fighters. I don't care if I die, cause, frankly, it's part of the game. I believe those who fly capships (don't take offense to this, guys, I know some players can't fly fighters-nothing wrong with that) are afraid of being killed, they run away when 5 fighters are about to take them down, they feel safe in their big bad ship; they're the ones who go out looking for a fight and are the first to leave when things look bad.
It's just an example, that some things can't just be cut out...
And believe me, there won't be more of those ships. That shared one solves the problem entirely.
possibly there'll be fewer in favour of better. Or smaller and faster
/frank mode on/
So now what? scrap all but the Warhammer and set her up AGAIN on the shared acc?!
/frank mode off/
And quit treating my every post in slippery matters with a flamethrower... it's getting boring.
(btw, when did you see me in Nem or Doom in Peg or Boom in Val last?)
Generally - I'm all for limiting the number of capships aound the server - the BS license should solve the problem - set the maximum number of these IDs per faction and voila - you can control their capship number. Should only factions be allowed to purchase battleships? imo-yes. too much effort is required to get a beast and while in 4.82 every noob could afford one, now it's madness to try and trade for it alone. Moving battleship production to guard base shipyards wouldn't change much. The spyglass already is harder to get. Same could happen to other battleships.
Quote:1. No civilians can gain access to a capship license.
2. Freelancers only can gain access to GB license at the max.
3. Greater factions are in need of a military hierarchy.
4. Responsibility is upon the faction leader
5. Only faction leader can apply for capship licenses to the admin.
6. Admins only work is to decide for the application dependend to the size of the faction, their hierarchy and their reps. For balancing the limited number must have figured out
7. Admins only have to watch over following the rules as they already do.
8. I repeat responsibility is upon the faction leader. Means, if the faction leader is doing wrong, the whole faction get punished. Is a member doing wrong and the faction leader unable to handle this, the whole faction get punished. This is a hard way, but will bring more discipline.
^ - Agreed.
Just another doubt from me - the battleship license is getting into the game soon - with it arrival - all un-IDd battleships will become illegal overnight - will that mean mass capship dismounting?

so you say, when i am full friendly with guard,i am alowed to have bs or no?
and mercs only in gb.so when someone from unlawful have a crusier or destroyer and take 2-3 fighters as protect again bombers/fighters he can destroy eweryone when is noone with the same class ship online.adn merc can make nothing when someone will hire merc for help.
but cap ships in guard systems and when noone can buy it until his rep with curent guard is not full green not only neutral or little friendly is not bad or yes?
' Wrote:so you say, when i am full friendly with guard,i am alowed to have bs or no?
No, it doesn't. By putting them in the guard system it pretty much makes the character have to full rep out a ship before even buying a capital ship... And if this Battleship license comes in to play, you most likely won't be buying one.

Thats the thing, if capital ships get moved to the guard system. The so called factions would be able to purchase one or two to defend against other capital ships. If none are online, well its their own damn fault. Merc's are there to help, they don't have to win...
Six battleships is a bit much. TBH has two, 101st have one. Not sure about the others, like SF or SA (don't make me count!!). Most TBH members also have a gunboat, but we have maybe one or two cruisers, because they are pretty useless. Also, our ranking system doesn't consist of traditional ranks, but just brothers, and Elders.
Fighter or bomber combat is always the best for me, but there are times I wish I was in my gunboat. Like for instance when I face two cruisers, which is becoming all to regular nowadays.
The only way to restrict battleships is too make the battleship license equipabble (unlootable) and admin controlled. This is the only way I see it working.
And even in the image and on the website it is discovery freelancer.. or in the banner below "Freelancer Discovery"
Igiss intended this mod to be an expansion on the game...
It's not the server or the mod that is "clan oriented" it's the players. Quite honestly.. If a faction is using an inappropriate amount of capital ships.. All of their caps should be DELETED with no refund if they don't remedy the problem. if they continue to do it repeatedly the faction would be forcibly disbanded and banned.
Freelancers and solo players should *not* be limited on what ships they can fly.. That's just total bullarky! The problem is FACTIONS abusing capital ships in large numbers. Not freelancers.
How about generic IDs don't get to fly anything bigger than a gunboat? Change the Merc and Military IDs to reflect this. There is no reason for generic non-aligned ships to be as large as those belonging to fleets with entire governments and several planets financially backing them.
I also like the idea of a player-purchased license that is destroyed when the capship dies. Make the license cost a serious chunk of change and you'll see a lot fewer BSes in space risking their $100mil licenses. This would also reduce the number of ship suicides and perhaps put some cap ships out of action for a while when lost in battle.
"To gain a hundred victories in a hundred battles is not the highest excellence;
to subjugate the enemy's army without doing battle is the highest of excellence."
Templar, yep mate ... That would show damn good intent. Scrap them and move the rest to shared accounts.
With the licensing you may find you have just a few too many ... They will have to go then anyway.
Do it now, and save the cash ...
Global, when the licensing comes in, and to be bloody honest the sooner the better now, you may find you
will actually not be able to own one ... Nor will quite a few other people, who seem to think this is the latest
version of the 'Discovery Capship Whoring Mod'
Damn things are not the 'be all and end all' of Freelancer, and are now causing more blasted problems than
they are worth. I'll say a couple of words now, and let them sink in ...
If this continues to be a pain in the ass because every man and his dog has to own one with little thought to
RP or lack thereof, and the consequences ... How about a PLAYER WIPE to level the field again ?
Just thinking out loud ...
