Just a generic thought again: It's too bad we cannot alter some values for a week or a month and see how it works out  Would help to improve some things much faster!

Quote:I agree entirely with this. Hell i even changed from legal trading to blockade running, not for the sake of creds but hopping that some lawfuls can catch me. Only for a little RP with others.
Yeah, me too. It's very boring to bring the same stuff over and over again to the same place, and this really spices things up ... well, at least I think so :D

Please no nerfs, buffing trade profits should do the trick to keep them balanced.

~ guy that didn't trade, mine or pirated for a long time ( don't remember last time I did one of those )

this is cool signature

' Wrote:o.O Wha'? Takes me about 20 minutes to fill a hege, so about 40 minutes to fill a 5000 cargo transport. Then another 40 minutes to transport the ore and another 40 minutes to get back. So, for a 2 hours job I get 60 mills. That's 30 mils/hour which is not that much. The cardi-slaves route gives almost the same profit for less time, not to mention the risks are not that big.
As member of Daumann Heavy Construction ( DHC ) mining Uncut Diamonds in Omega-11 is easy.

I need 10-15 min to fill my Hegemon. So, to fill 5k hauler I need 30 minutes.
For transporting I need 15 minutes more.

Cant see how smuggling can be compared with mining.

Another thing: mining actually encourages trading. I mean player-to-player trading. That way, even a lowly lolwut can get into RP when he's mining and some trader passes by to buy some ore. It's more fun to mine than to trade because mining = mining + trading (hauling). Mining makes barge useful. Mining brings fights over mining spots into existance, which is fun. Shame the last sair we've seen in o11 to rob hessians was around like year ago.

Still, yeah, why not, buff trading, at least i'll get more money on return runs from ore selling place. Or wait a second, i'll be able to pirate traders for more credits if i don't want their cargo for some reason! Neat.

I am with Alvin on this. I agree we need to find a balance here. I am speaking from experience here. I have 4 traders and 2 miners. I rather enjoy trading. though, with help mining, it is possible to earn 52 mill an hr.

I am not sure if the fix is either:

increase trading profits.- which would increase the number of trade runs etc

simulate a dynamic commodity system: by changing prices say once a month

change ore sale prices or add more sale locations.

I am also sure that alot of this can also be attributed to the delay of the release of 4.86
everyone is waiting to see what happens. which can also affect activity.

' Wrote:unless ofc its intentional to keep people grinding.
More grinding, more transports. Transports bring pirates, pirates bring lawfuls. The chain of life on Disco.
Reduce grinding and you have bored pirates picking up fights everywhere which may be lulzy for some but I see it as harmful to the RP environment.
Even with a buff in trading people will still whine that money is hard to make, taxes are too high, H-Fuel is too expensive and so on. The amount of Q_Q is a set value.

Yes, please increase the amount of money made by trading to make the profit at least remotely equal to the profit gained by mining.

As some who has a small window into how complex the economy system is for the mod, I can say, a dynamic economy with the system we have at the moment would require a full time paid staff to focus on it. That said, I think we do have some options for a better system.

In the past we have had events that have effected the prices of items. We had an event at Freeport 14 and an event at Gamma. These events take a significant amount of actual planning to run, and require a close eye for any exploits in the system that might come up through the event. They require a fair amount of work from the admins to set them up in one the server, and a significant amount of work from the person planning it.

That said, I think we a clear view of what would be required, I am going propose to the admins that faction leaders be allowed to propose events. The admins would choice what event to run, and maybe we would have 1 event a month. More than that I think would result in too much work for everyone involved.

So a faction leader would see an interesting rp event to create a trade event based on. The one that instantly comes to mind at the moment for me is the Hfuel trade to Liberty. So, Joe or one of the Liberty corporate leaders would propose an event which would raise the price of Hfuel at bases in Liberty. This would make perfect sense in rp, and would give a good incentive to traders to run the routes.

Now, I would expect the faction leader proposing the event to do most of the footwork before making the proposal. Things like checking what bases on the path of the event sell the product in question. Looking at what other bases in the area sell the product. For example, using the Hfuel one again, the person proposing the event would look and see that Hfuel is sold at Deshima, and would suggest that the selling spot be taken away for the event, they would also look and see what other parts of Sirius sell the product, and which of those sell points would need to be taken away for the event. for example, if there was a place selling Hfuel in Bretonia, that would create an exploit allowing people to make the higher profit without risk.

That brings us to risk. All events that are set up should involve some sort of risk for the traders involved. This is the reason for the higher price. This is what makes the events fun. So I would expect the faction leader proposing an event would already have talked to other factions that would be involved as opposing groups in the rp.

The more I think about the idea, the more I think the best thing would be for me to put together a Templeton for proposing an event, with all the things the faction leader should figure out before proposing it to the admins. I will work on this as I have time today, and if it doesn't get done today, I will get it done this week and submit it to the admins for their opinions. But I think this would be a way to implement some part of a dynamic economy and some background for continuing rp untill we get to 4.86.

The other option for promoting trading is one which the IND have made extensive use of, as well as many other factions. Player factions should be using their funds to promote the import or export of goods they need outside of the economy system. Factions giving bonuses for the movement of important cargo, and limited trade contracts with bonuses really increase the drive of players to trade, and promote an rp environment that makes trading interactive and fun.

Edit: Sorry, didnt realize it turned into such a wall of text.
Edit 2 : and credit where credit is do, this is just a continuation of the event ideas that Dusty had back during his time as admin.

It's a shame seeing a cardi smuggler is rare nowadays. But staying in Magellan for 5 minutes ensures seeing atleast a few gold ore filled transports. Yeah, I definitely want a balance between trading and mining. Right now thanks to the ungodly profit in Dublin most players are falling so low just so they can earn more and more profit for their big capital ship. From all the people I've pirated there only one impressed me with roleplay over greed. Kudos to that dude.

I am a trader/pirate and sometimes a miner. I support this.
