That was your mind playing tricks on you because nowhere in my posts did I mention that.
' Wrote:You two decided to react violently to what was just an innocent statement, proving just how defensive you are.
Every normal person can see that your first post in this thread was just making fun of it to serve your own interests and goals. By all means, do that, but not in a thread that is not devoted to it. I presume that you do it so much, that you dont even notice the difference between an innocent statement, and what you are doing.
And thank you for the good wishes. We will have it say "The Red Dream" and then we will blow up any Outcasts that stray into the Omegas with it. Nah Im just kidding, our fighters can do that too.
' Wrote:Its quite obvious that you know nothing of the Red Hessians, which automatically means you can not make a suiting ship for this topic. Go away.
That's a rather rude reply, not only is working on a battleship for the Hessians taking my time away from other things, you seem to assume that, because my knowledge on the RA is rather outdated, that I lack the skills required to make a ship that can fit? Blodo himself already said it doesn't have to b completely in line with the snubs, and I for one, thinks variety within a ship-line helps keep monotony away.
' Wrote:I have bad news for you - we have that ability already.
Speaking of that model and non-hessian-enough, ye, slap some hammer-and-pick on it somewhere. That'd be enough for me, to be honest. Really, guys, caps don't have to look the same as snubs, and the fact that snubs have wings don't make caps to be winged. You know, Valkyre has wings too, but RM BS doesn't.
If the hammer-and-pick comment was directed towards me, then here, I put one on it. If not, then you can ignore the picture.
Hades don't fret too much.
Your ship is actually quite nice, it looks like it's been made cleanly and doesn't have any model issues.
However there are some things that will turn people off it.
1. Lack of a texture / bad rendering engine
- People tend to be fickle about their space ships. If you look around, you can really make anything look good with a nice angle on it, with the right edges etc. A proper texture job on that ship would make it look far better and/or using a different rendering engine. I had the same issues with my old models. Try putting your models into another modelling program such as Metaseq and use it for renders.
2. Simularities to the Rheinland Battleship
- Hessians are proud folks. Although a RM battleship makes sense, it might not be different enough for folks. That said, such simularities also give the ship a nice look.
Ultimately, don't be disuaded by Smokey's rudeness.
Try texturing it and throw up another picture, might net you the billion:)

Yes, by all means dont. My rudeness was not that much directed at you, but at other people that were making snarky comments. But you shouldnt have been the one I was directing my rudeness at and I apologize for that. Obviously I should have pointed you in the right direction and explained the current state of the Red Hessians. Let me try and make that up by giving you feedback on your ship.
-You are on the trail to the right direction with the bulkyness. However, it feels like the back and middle part of the ship were just taken from the Rheinland Battleship model. Try incorporating some changes that will make this model more unique so to say.
-Texturing or making the model look "sharper" (if that is the right term) would be nice, and would probably make it look much better.
-Try accommodating the engine so that it looks more "hessian". Because right now the engine itself doesnt really look Rheinlandish or Hessianish (if thats even a word).
I hope this will help you in your future attempts, if there will be any.

Alright, I'll do that, can you link me to the FreeLancer texture sets? I've looked around and haven't been able to find them.

Alrght, I'll play around with the middle and the back some, and thanks for the feedback and apology. The reason the model doesn't look 'sharp' is because my modeling program, Wings3D cannot render, so I have to screenshot the ship, which doesn't really lend well to presentation.
' Wrote:Well, a first, eh, call it "design study". Just to see if this basic design pleases you, otherwise it would be kinda senceless to put more time in it.
Due to the edgy front it is a bit grim looking - exactly what unlawfuls want
It is bulky and boxy - the Rheinland-way
The circles on the side are a reminiscence to the Red Hessian fighters
The same goes for the tubes
Short wings (rougly 50 Meters wide) with the RH-gunboat wing-shape in mind
As I said - basic model! Best time to make large-scale changes or throw it away completly.
Some more angles won't hurt. Some more details, too. To be honest, right now even taking the basic state it looks way too simple. But the whole approach is fine, i think.

Freelancer textures are put in the ".MAT" files. Simply look at the one used for the Vidar, extract those textures and use em. Alternatively I could send you the Vidar in milkshape format including textures - remove the model and merge with your own ship and you have a good textureset to work with.
