Hades when you finish the back section of the model, could we get a pic of that as well? I am interested to see what you will do with the engines.

The exhausts ought to be round shaped by the way, because of the way FL engine exhausts work and look like.

Right, I've redone the engines a little bit, and while I think it looks better, I'd like some opinions on it.

Link.

Note, the main hull being green is so it is easier to tell the engine nozzles and the hangar-bay door out from the rest of the model, since what I was using for rendering messes up the smoothing. The Valkyrie fighters are to scale.

Well I was going to try to whip something up, but honestly.. I'll let Hades get the credit for this one. Unless he needs somebody to texture the beast. In which case I'll gladly lend my skills.

Very nice so far. I would imagine most of the detail on the back of the model (engines, reactor, etc.) will be added by texture as "armour plating" or something of the sort. The engines are of the right shape, so the engine trails can be put inside nicely and it would look good and "realistic" ingame.

By the way how many turret hardpoints can you fit on this model? Since ideally this would be a medium battleship, the amount of turret hardpoints should be about 12 to 14 depending on how well they can be fit on the model. Taking that into account, if you want you can actually model in mounts for hardpoints or something (but its not a requirement, just an idea).

In addition to that I see you have modelled in a hangar like one in one of the vanilla battleships. Very nice, we'd be able to animate it in the future and it would work completely like a vanilla bs.

Not sure about Hades' model. In my opinion it simply doesn't fit the Hessian style at all. It's nice and all, but still...I can't feel the Hessian-ness in this one.

The model is indeed tremendously awesome. However, a question that comes in mind, seeing by the details you have put in, whats the poly count?

Remember that poly count for freelancer can exceed to a certain limit. ;)

Hades your model's good but one thing I'd suggest changing in favor of a more "Rheinland-look" of the ship is to re-work the rear-end of the thing including the engine section and mayhaps have it be one of those ball-shape rear-ends as seen on the Rheinland Cruiser and Rheinland Battleship, possibly not as wide so that it would look less of a ball but still keep the distinctive appearance. The rest of the thing looks bulky, rugged, and ugly enough to be a Hessian warship and a Rheinland one for that matter, but the rear-end kind of doesn't look Rheinland enough in my opinion.

I'd also suggest flattening the bulge on the top a bit more, because it's that bulge that kind of gives the ship the overall feel of resembling other ships too much. The Mako has it, the Liberty BS and BC sort of have extra "fat" in the middle too, and the RMBS has a bulge of its own. Your model looks, bar the aforementioned rear-end, Rheinland enough without it already.

Including the RHA symbol on the ship is extra-awesome btw. =D

I can put as many as need be, right now, I've got places for 13 turrets and the forward gun (considering it's OK'd by the developers).

Here is a picture of them, including the main gun. If you don't like them, I can easily change them.

Thanks! The polygon count is a about 6200 triangles, with edges down the middle for mirroring) and some mesh cleanup still needing to be done.

If I use that type of engine, then it'd be a bit too Rheinland Military and people would say it wouldn't fit with with the Hessians (more-so than already).

Surely you want to say "16".

Also, did it get flatter? If yes, good but moar please. It looks better. If no, i'd love it to be a little bit flatter. Or not a little. Maybe try another model being this one but with width and height swapped? It probably won't take too long to try and i'd be happy to see how it looks that way, please.

Also, FW that far down would be harder to aim. Maybe move it a bit up?

Aye make the number of hardpoints 16 just in case. Better to have them and not worry about having too few, than too many.

But it is looking very nice so far. Will you be doing the texture job as well?
