Greetings to all Discovery players out there, I just started FL for like 2 months now I think and I want to express just a personal matter about the server and its community.

IF YOU DONT HAVE A OPEN MIND, AND YOU WANT TO JUMP ARGUING WITH ME STOP READING IT NOW!

For these 2 months I played like every faction I could... played outcasts, corsairs, junkers, zoners, liberty navy, bretonia etc... I've played other games (wow etc) on rp servers and I can make a point on RP.
First of all, Discovery is a great server, huge respect to admins, moderators etc. Their idea its a piece of art period. BUT some of players, like 75% just dont know whats RP.
RP isnt just text, seriously, RP is about creating content about your RP. When you develop your RP, you attribute actions and facts to your character.
75% of currently RP on Discovery stinks, just stinks... 75% of players just like to stay and chit chat ... (AND THAT DOESNT CREATE ANY NECESARRY GOOD RP).

Tonight when I was online, In Malta, being an outcast as you figured, after a poor organized raid on Crete ( we tooked like 1 hour to get all there) a lot of guys we were standing in front of Malta, basically just doing nothing...And then I saw what a guy said and ....well cant explain....

Imagine this: I logon on server, I want some good rp, to feel a futuristic experience, you know living in a space enviroment etc. And than I saw what a guy said...

" I think I ate too much curry and I'm afraid to fart because I might crap myself "

What the hell???? RP ??? What is this??? what???? and he was damn serious, and the others guys listening to him aswell, his character said that ... and btw outcasts who were a very action type faction becomed a lame one...
You want RP? go make raids, rendez-vous missions, secret missions, interact with other factions more often, CREATE CONTENT!!!

In New York, there I think I've seen the badest rp ever...I just cant get it whats hapening in there... sometimes there are like 30 navy there and they dont want to raid Rheinland, no they do not want! Its a freakin war!!! I want, as a player on Discovery, I deserve to see an war, wheres the war? I want to feel that Liberty is fighting with Rheinland, I WANT CONTENT... instead they just stay like lazy there, once they runned like 12 navy on my little rogue fighter...What tha? If you are a liberty navy and you stay like 5 hours chatting in discovery, go all of you and fight that 5 hours in Rheinland space, because its a freakin WAR. And in that time you will get the best content for your character, write it down, post it on forum, make yourself a war hero etc.

So as a conclusion, cuz i dont want to write more, its like 3 am in my country, create more rp... epic battles make a ounstanding content...stop chit chating for 4 HOURS in front of Malta or NY or whatever...
BE CREATIVE, INTERACT, PLAY

So i know you all gonna jump right at me, but i dont care, its just my personal opinion on this server, as you also have your opinion as a differend mind. Hope I didnt make mad any admin, it were just some thoughs.

Here's my two cents. I do agree that most RP is just lame.

However, you can't impose your way of roleplaying on others, or viceversa. And basically, this is the thing that bugs me the most about Disco. As you said, people are not open-minded. It's their way or the highway.

If you want better roleplay, shouting and Q_Q'ing might just not be the way to go. Rather, you need to set an example. But, meh, my original point was thay everyone can do whatever the hell makes him happy (within certain limits of course, like respect for others), so....

@Rogue_91 Yes of course we should be open minded and have a freedom to RP, but we should have the same aspect of the game, Freelancer, you cant, you simply cant in my opinion, play freelancer and say what the curry guy said.... it ruins the game, ruins freelancer and everything....
For the many of us that wants a futuristic space game, the curry guy and others like him, just dont get into... they ruin the experience... and Freelancer is to beautiful to be ruined

For various reasons, this is actually considered good RP in DiscoGC, and the guy saying it was probalby a veteran.

However what you say is true, and my ways of explainin it is this:

-a lot of veterans are bored with standard old "lets raid the enemy RP"
-a lot of new people dont know how to RP the factions correctly, even if they wanted, because they have very little background information on factions (only the few lines in the infocards, actually)
-A lot of people are attracted to the mod for the action componenets, not because of the game atmosphere or RP potential, as in WoW

I have already addressed this stuff here, and offered a solution near hte end of the thread:

http://discoverygc.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=92858

Im looking for more ideas to make the the game atmosphere more intense.

In my opinion the only way to get more peopel to RP correctly is to make the backround stor(ies) of the whole mode and the factions more captivatin. Already giving more information so people have somethin to RP would be a good start.

Well, truth be told, places like Malta/Crete/NY/Dublin aren't exactly the most suited for roleplaying needs. Why? HUGE concentration of new players and veterans tend to avoid those places.

Problem is, we don't have a way to make sure people know what roleplay is, know a faction's lore and, most importantly, know the server rules before they get in game.

It makes for bad situations. Example:

Today a bunch of Hessians raded Gamma. It was good, we killed a Legate, and a few cruisers. Things started going down when 1 cruiser re-engaged, and completely took us by surprise. It ruined all our fun, seriously. Same did a fighter after that. But, I might be going slightly off topic here, though. The essence is: roleplay is damn important, but understanding of server rules and an overall respect for other players is even more.

True, I was on that raid...pretty lame what that guy did.

You dont understand: Roleplay makes rules.

If People went to roleplay properly.

Let's take a scenario:

I trade, Hop in a lane in california, A rogue stops me, and says... "Well hello there.. mind if you pay a little donation of 2 million".

"no"

"Then you die"

*pew pew*

Now: Take another scenraio, Samely based:

Trader gets stopped

Pirates starts a scene by typing:

"Hooray, Seems I am lucky today. *Shoots the engines to make the trader a drift*'

"Trader: Oi! Stop that!"

"Pirate: I would.. See what you get there in yer load?"

and so on.. Setup a scene.

Tax or die is just boring. Roleplay comes mainly from text, with actuall fighting an plus but not that importnant to me.

Right now, I have setupped scenes with a kidnapper in private, due to other pirates lolwutting and killing when I just come in theyr ZOI to actually RP.

Same with little nomads, I have engaged in a really nice rp's along the time.

Also, Preset messages should be removed by all pirates if you ask me. Its a great thing to have for when you have to type something long, but not everyone types fast, or wants to use those.

I only use for instance like: Giving a warning to my group to where I am at.

Yes of course, I see your scenarios and they are beautiful, and also, are related to actions... you see your beautifull scenarios you created are related by actions... not just random talk about food etc ... You create scenes, we players are directors of our own situations. But talking just randomly and practically doing nothing in game just that isnt a rp, that doesnt make you creative! I can also interact with others and speak just random stuff, i did that ive done that etc... But I dont, I want to create a freelancer enviroment, a futuristic experience... Lets take for an example from what I've seen on some admirals with battleships... Some of them they are not into their characters, they just talk random and nothing makes sence to their original character... An example: we were preparing for an raid on sairs, and 2 admirals just didnt maked sense to the situation... they were talking about food and drinks and stuff. What the heck? I should take orders and follow this guys? I mean be a damn leader, be an admiral, enter your character more deeply... Random talk is more for a Second Life RP!

Look long enough into the darkness and it starts looking into you.

And I have already outdone the darkness a few times over. [Image: emoticon-0130-devil.gif]

Now srsleh - some deserve being Rp'd with and some don't. I enjoy RPing a scheming politician with military background and/or foulmouthed veteran.

And depending on point of view - I'm either the most persistent and consistent RPer on the server or don't RP at all. Cause I act like the aforementioned 2 just about all the time.

*cough* Second Life has more rp. Unless you dont mean Second Life as in the adult simulator.
