Fly an eagle, roc or similar ship.

Well yeah but that does not really fit RP. Police flying civ ships? does not look good.

Give -ALL- house police forces access to up to the naval gunboats, and naval snubs. No cruisers, no battleships of course. This gives the police factions the firepower they need to effectively do their jobs. It makes no sense to give the pirates VHFs, Gunboats, Bomber, Cruisers and leave the cops with just peashooters to do their jobs.

Solves the "lack-of-equipment" problem. Alternate suggestion is to simply merge the police force into the navy, which is the de-facto case for most houses at present.

Wide awake in a world that sleeps, enduring thoughts, enduring scenes. The knowledge of what is yet to come.

Well, that's kind of already the case for most police factions. The only server rules that restrict what ships a police officer can fly are on the ID, and even those will allow ships up to a gunboat (with guard IDs). It's just up to the leaders of the factions to allow their pilots to fly heavier ships.

I've already done this, in a sense. At a certain rank, my KSP officers can swap out their Wyrm for a Chimaera, if they wish to. And every officer, no matter their rank, can pilot an Umibozu bomber, as long as they can get that ship a guard IFF. And on top of that, the KSP shared account has a Kusari Gunboat, a Big Dragon transport, and soon it'll have an Ahoudori, too.

But still, I insist that most officers maintain and fly a Wyrm LF for the sake of sticking to our roots. Police fly LFs. That's just how it goes in the Freelancer universe, and I've always found that unique and cool. And if the issue here is that no one wants to be obligated to flying a Light Fighter, then... well, that's what the higher ranks are for. Work your way up (seriously, it hardly takes any effort at all to earn a promotion) and you can have your Chimmies and your Umibozus. But the Wyrm is iconic, and it must stay. After all, if the police didn't fly the LFs, who would?

As such, I think it's important that we try to think of ways to make LFs more desirable, yet still balanced against other fighter-types. We know they're great for dodging and for staying on the ass of your opponent. And they're amazing at mine placement, if you're able to do it. But they lack in overall firepower. So my suggestion is to boost the LFs' powercore regeneration. For one of the 4.85 updates, Freighters got their powercores boosted to 3x their previous power, but recharge remained the same, opening the way for heavy-hitting but slow-charging ships. I suggest we do the opposite with LFs. Boost the power regeneration by 1.5x or 2x, but leave the overall core capacity the same. That way, they'll be able to get off more shots with the fewer guns that they have, but still won't be able to fire the more energy-consuming weapons.

If not that, I've seen all sorts of suggestions on how to make LFs better in combat. People have suggested unique LF guns that travel faster than normal guns, or faster thruster speeds. Hell, anything to make the LFs more desirable would be a major plus in my book.

Apart from the speed boost that LFs and Freighters are supposedly getting in the next update, that is. That'll be awesome. But it still won't do much for combat.

i think - that police factions would have a lot more to do if house militaries would stop acting like police factions.

military doesnt chase down criminals. they fight other militaries. the former is police work.

im in a hurry i might expand this later. basic idea is there.

Using civvie ships fits the LPI's RP rather well, since we're technically a corporation.

That's already the case I believe. Although I only know of the LPI >.>

The best way to help us police factions is to join us. And for the Xeeners to stop stealing the LPI's members.:P

Ok, that's the reason why I avoid them, but have them up one's sleeve.

But I don't see the Problem. Police is primary for traffic regulation. I love it, when a transporter is put out of action by my LF or Freighter.

You could also took a big bang transport. (or in RFP the Mjolnir, but it sucks)

For everything greater than a transport I call my comrades or the military.

Two things you can do for police factions:

1. Join a police faction (there are 5 of them, any color you like)
2. Join a pirate faction (there are what, 15-20, go and shoot police)

and for ships...well an eagle with hammers or kisses kicks ass.

this however, is a thing of balance. everything in the mod is balanced, thats why petty criminals can easily attack a police officer without fear of being killed. therefore are recognized as a bigger threat and responded to by militaries. see rogues in liberty for example. or whichever unlawful organization. we can have balance, or realism. both have issues. question is - are we willing to sacrifice balance for sake of roleplay?

i'd personally go for it, but i might be alone.
