Actually, I'm just qqing that I've been engaged by a trio of three bombers in the same system about three times in a row in my gunboat.
It went something along the lines of:
Pirate bomber trio: LNS! DAI!
LNS-me: Erm alright.
PEWING ENSUES
*whittles down first bomber to no bots or bats, and half hull left*
*first bomber runs off to restock while his two buddies keep trying to snac me*
*whittles down second bomber to no bots or bats and half hull left*
*second bomber runs off to restock as his remaining buddy continues to cd and snac me*
*whittles down third bomber to no bots or bats and half hull left*
*first bomber comes back*
Pirate bomber 1: I got your back bro!
*third bomber goes runs off to restock*
*Pirate bomber 1 gets whittled down to no bots or bats and half hull*
Pirate bomber 1: I'll get you gadget! *runs off*
Resume patrol.

Well in all that time your LNS could not find another navy to help? I mean,come on. There is always a ton a LNS/Navy/LSF/LPi/Mercs/Freelancers in Liberty just waiting for a chance to kill a pirate. Call for help! I have a dread,and i am not ashamed to admit when i am outgunned and need a few fighters.
Now as for killing 3 bombers with 1 GB? you would have to be freaking god in that GB,or the bomber pilots were so Noob they probly couldn't tie their laces. 1 good bomber can rape a GB.

*shrug* I've never been taken out by a lone bomber before. Also, I shouldn't have to ask for backup if I can actually take em if not for the easy access to fleeing. People cry foul already when a cap picks a fight with three snubs.
And yes, the bombers weren't very good since they were only packing snacs.
Also, I respectfully request that you don't post irrelevant things such as this on to this thread.

With few exceptions, all gunboats might as well have the agility of a super transport when fighters are involved.
You can't deny that any fighter that doesn't want to fight a gunboat can very easily avoid the fight by simply thrusting out of range :/
I'm just saying that it's unfair to gunboat pilots to force all gunboat/fighter engagements to be always on the fighter's terms since well... gunboat pilots are people too (albiet a lower form of people who have three word vocabularies and tend to smell ba- ermm anyways.)
It's a game, games are there for fun. If you nerf an aspect that quite a few people find fun, then you should expect them to say something about it :/ gunboats are as much a part of the mod as fighters are - and the fun of a fighter pilot shouldn't be valued any higher than that of a gunboat pilot.
I'd just like to say that it's just frustrating to have a system in which fighters can fight on their own terms at all times, and bypass gunboat players completely. It's just meh.

Why should it matter? "Get an escort" is something you should be saying to transports, miners, cruisers, and BS'.
Gunboats are made for self sufficiency.
Also, solo flying gunboats is a rather large part of many players' gameplay, you can't just take that away and expect everything to be peachy. Why should my fun be worth less than yours? There was a system that worked, and then the new one took it away. I'm well within my rights to voice my complaints about it.
In terms of balance though, gunboats are now obsolete against fighters and bombers.

If you stick around to get engaged over and over and not call for assistance then that is your fault, not the rules, not the admins, and not the players.
This is and was not meant to be a solo mod. This is a mod designed around factions, teamwork, and for some extent a community.
Every game I have played there are people like you that complain that for what-ever reason your ability to survive solo in group based game hinders your fun.
Yes it's a game, yes it should be fun, but the game has a purpose, if you want to play outside that purpose.. Then you accept the consequences of that action.
Being able to flee is to me one of the best rule changes they added to the game.
Now I agree docking and repair in the matter of seconds needs to be altered a bit to compensate. BUT.. Repair should not take the same 4 hours that fleeing previously did with death. There is no reason for it.
With the technology that we have "inRP" it should not take overly long to repair a ship.
Perhaps give repair a 5min timer or something, I do not have a solution that I think would be perfect to suggest so I will simply leave it as a thought.

Again.. Regardless of how you have used them to date.. Gunboats are protectors... not hunters..
The change brought the game more in line with the RP. Just because part of the player base does something does not mean the people that control this mod have to like it, or simply they want to take the game play into a different more team focused direction.
Gunboats were not designed to be self sufficient.. Simply because the rules in-place made them that way does not mean that is how it should have been.
You are well within your right to say something about the change, and we are well with-in our right to disagree with you and provide our reasons behind it as well.
Who knows, this change could be a pre-curser to something in 4.86 that will shift power back to GB's a little more...
If it always stays the same.. it gets old and people leave (more so then over a simple rule change)

It's a game, yes. This however, is not about solo gameplay, it's about gunboats as a class fighting against fighters as a class.
This new development FORCES gunboats as a class to have a fighter escort if it is to ever have a chance at actually killing another fighter - at which point, what point is there in having a gunboat when there's a fighter there already? Also, in fighter vs fighter+gunboat engagements, the gunboat is often hard pressed to keep up with the fight, as it involves the fighters getting ever further out of gunboat gun range (and often the risk of friendly fire for missiles is too great, if the fighter isn't flying too spasticly for the missiles to hit in the first place).
I just don't like that they've made an entire class of ship completely obsolete. Running is fine, but running shouldn't be so easy, especially if you're running from a ship designed to counter fighters.
