Ok, so I'm trying to play FL on my new laptop... I thought it met the minimun reqs but maybe i'm wrong..
I turn it on... the videos play fine, but when the game starts the buttons mess up. The text on them flash randomly all over the screen... So I click the button I know is "Multiplayer" and it goes on to show the "want to continue" window so I click what I know is Yes. Then I choose what I know is the internet button (remeber the text on the buttons is flashy crazyly around.. then when it should give me the list of servers to connect to, those flash around to.. so it's impossible to know what server to connect to.
When I play SP, the same thing happens. When I am supposed to go to the bar and meet Juni, the buttons on the top and top right of the screen are flashing crazily around..
So is this a low graphic card problem? Seems strange that it will play movies just fine, but it can't show stupid buttons... weird...
Any ideas? This is my second fresh install of FL with the same problem..
Thanks, any help will be appreciated!
EDIT: Crap, now it just crashed my cpu... strange...
Hmmm possibly your graphics card is too low end... but assuming its an integrated video chipset, as most laptops do, then it'd have to be a pretty old one (>3 years) to choke in Freelancer. What chipset is it? Try setting to 800x600 resolution and see if that helps....
My advice is the usual thing: make sure your video drivers are the latest, etc. Are you running Vista by chance? (Vista --> bad). Also make sure DirectX is running correctly: Start->Run->dxdiag.exe, then click the Display tab and run the tests therein.
Let us know how it goes...
o.
EDIT: Sorry not quick enough... To see what your graphics is, right-click the desktop and click Properties. Then select Settings tab, then hit Advanced, then select Adapter. That page should tell you what it is.
