Joe looked a bit astonished towards the end of the rope which he tied around his waste. The cold air was refresing though and he had to admit that he enjoyed it.
Joe : All right, sir. This shouldn't prove too much of a challenge if we can take our time. It's not that i fancy these kinds of things, but it must be done. We should plan this out carefully if we don't want to risk our lives.
He tied some guns to his chest aswell to make sure they would not fall, but that he did have his hands free. All of a sudden he heard the roarings again and this time, they were close... He already saw some glowish thingy coming from afar.
Joe : Sir! We need to get going, ASAP! No time for planning, just go! After you, sir, i'll cover us.
He grabbed his handgun and waited for a clear shot....
Joe and Jack were ready to descend into the elevator's shaft, when several Nomads came out from the darkness of the hallway that they previously walked up in, one of which tripped in the metal case, echoing the metal in the whole level. While they were tied up to the main rope, and tied up together to prevent that they would fell down, Jack and Joe loaded their weapons, ready to obstacolate the enemy targets with lead.
Jack Aubrey: NOW THIS WILL BE INTERESTING!
Jack and Joe literally released on the unknown group hell itself, the rose from their shotgun could be seen ripping through the organic composition of their enemies, making them to fall on the ground before receiveing the deadly hit. The shotguns were doing their job magnificently.
Jack noticed that in the shootout, some ammo packs that he tied up around his waist fell in the shaft, leaving him without ammo.
Joe's vision was blurred with the gunsmoke rising from both their guns, he heard the Colonel's request for ammo and he quickly searched his bandolier for any shotgun slugs. Of course, they were in his pocket. It's always in the last pocket you look...... He handed them over to Jack and he quickly reloaded his shotgun again. It seemed most of them lay slain by there weapons.
While he fired some last rounds with his handgun, to get some accurate shots, he asked Jack something.
Joe : How will we take the Light Machinegun with us?
He heared someone shouting and looked down, because it was so dark he could not see who it was and he still heard a beep in his head cause of the shotgun fire.
The muzzle-flash from their shotguns illuminated the surrounding area around the elevator, more and more creatures were inbound towards their position, and this time they finally started to use intelligence. While Joe and Jack were anchored inside the shaft, only with their torso and gun pointing out, and holding on the elevator's structure with their legs, the creatures started to target the rope which kept Joe and Jack safe from falling inside the shaft.
Jack furiosly started to open fire on them, reloading one slug, taking the aim, and making the kill. Occasionally reloading his shotgun against the base of the door, by simply pushing the gun's breechblock against the cement base, while he kept his finger on the trigger.
The smoke produced by their weapons was blended by the occasional laser beams coming from the creatures' tentacles.
Jack Aubrey: We are wasting ammo, we need to go down, NOW!
Jack kept his shotgun in one hand, while with the other one was holding the rope.
Jack Aubrey: Put your main line between your legs, and start jumping. Be sure to keep one hand on the rope, or you'll hit the ground at minus six levels from here.
Knowing, like Jack, that this was a waste of ammo he grabbed his submachinegun, stepped back into the corridor and quickly dragged the Machinegun towards their ropes. With the other hand he surpressed the nomads from advancing and while Jack was also keeping the fire on the enemy Joe managed to grab ahold of the case while being able to slide down.
He put the main rope between his legs and shouted, trying to overcome the gunfire, that he was ready. The two men slid down, like the old mountain climbers Joe heard tales of. Jump, get your feet back on the wall and jump again. The nomads did not rush towards the shaft, because they lost visual and it got silent. Wait.... didn't he just hear a voice shouting from below? What if it were Erik and Dave?
Joe : Erik! Dave! Are you there?
Joe to Jack : Damn, this case is heavy, i can't hold out much longer. We need to hurry!
"Of course I'm here you deaf hero! I've been shouting down here the entire time. Dave got hit by a piece of cement. He's alright, but he'll have a headache in the morning!"
