Me and a friend of mine (who used to play Discovery rather extensively, before getting bored of it and moving on) were discussing the various points of the uses of bombers, the other day.
The conversation went on for quite awhile, and, through some vague and confusing train of thought, we both came up with a rough idea for a new class of ship (or, rather, a subclass of bombers).
The idea is too create a ship entirely meant for reckless, hit-and-run strikes on capital ships or gunboats. With quick turning, bare-minimum bomber armament, a good shield, and little hull integrity, it would only really be effective for attacks against heavy targets, rather than being able to both attack heavies and joust fighters.
Because my paragraph descriptions are always messy, here are some proposed stats, to help clear up the concept.
Guns/Turrets 2 / 0
Opt. weapon class 6
Max. weapon class 6
Additional equipment
1xCD/T
1xCD
1xCM
Hull strength 6,000
Max. shield class 10 (Fighter)
Cargo space 60 units
Nanobots/Batteries 20/65
Max. impulse speed 80 m/s
Max. thrust speed 199 m/s
Power output 31,000 u
Power recharge 1,200 u/s
Turning Slightly faster than an Orchid (unsure how to quantify turning speed)
(Yes, having no Mine is intended)
With a profile akin to an HF's, such stats would (in my opinion) render such a ship relatively useless against most fighters, unless one became extremely skilled in using it. The average shield and low hull strength would make jousting suicide, and the middle-of-the-road agility would render other strategies against snucraft pretty much useless.
Thus, it could only ever be effective against larger ships.
Well, if you can read my trainwreck of a writing style, I'd really like any feedback regarding the refinement of this idea, and if it's even viable as a ship class.
2 bomber guns will rip off a fighter shield in what? 5 rounds?.... if you can turn like a slow VHF, even low armour will be more then enough to snac like mad...
So it's a rather agile ship(sabre like) that's capable of firing a Snac.
Uh... I don't see that happen. It's the main reason, the agility of the roc was turned down. Having a Sabre with a snac is a bit too powerful. The lack of 2/3 guns and a mine dropper won't make a difference here.
Well, I see the problems with this. Was rather poorly thought out, in retrospect. Perhaps making them a bit larger, and stripping them of any guns, would fit the concept better. That, or making their shield abysmal.

Uh, no thanks.
Maybe if it had its own low, low grade torpedo (not a low grade snac mind you)
Then I could accept it but we dont need any more nerfs to caps ty.
Quote:Give them no shields.
=P That'd work.
Quote:basically, Arrow with no guns, no CD, no CM would still be OP if it could only use snac....
Already the first posters misconceive. Guys, that's less armour than a light fighter. Also, to mention that, in ANY situation, a SNAC hit on a target smaller then a gunboat is pure dumb luck, even for the most skilled... Anyhow...
I personally like this idea, however, it could use some improvement. For instance;
Powercore: Make it a solid 30K Units. An extra 7000 would make too much a difference with the bomber guns.
Bot/Batt count: 20/65. I get the idea the shield is the main line of defense here, good idea. It'll make people think, and add new strategy to the whole thing, if this archetype is introduced.
Cargo space: Either make it /just enough/ for an armour upgrade, or less than such.
All the rest is fine. The profile could be up to debate, and an average agility can also be subject to change.
And as a note to other posters. don't just shoot it down because "ONOZ NO LIKE". Give it a test run. Why on earth do we have a Dev Team if we're just gonna shoot down new ideas? If you were any sort of smart, you'd be wanting to mounting pulse cannons on those two slots, and I can say from experience, unless you have luck on your side, you will always lose with those on a joust.
