I'm presently working on obtaining an (Unarmed) Capital ship, and the grind is indeed... Painful.
That being said; the idea behind it is sound enough. Though the number of capitals that don't seem to role play, perhaps, as they should seems to imply that it's not really working. So, I'm all for reduced prices.
However; while Discovery is a Role-Play server, having to write RP likely would dissuade some people. That's neither here nor there, but flying such large ships is the reason I downloaded Discovery way back when (I know! Please don't lynch me.), and I'm not entirely sure that placing more limits on them would encourage new players.

same here, only came for the large toys.
However i dont think they are too expensive. I mean buy them on the forums...
Of course you can have a battleship worth 1,5 billions and more but you also can get one for 400 mios.
And that is not too much id say.
It shouldnt be so easy to get like fighters / bombers for they are just more special and look cooler.
Its like in every other online game....prestige for the e-pe...
Its been said and i agree...
Prices wont really stops lolwuts from having their lolcaps...
But it really discourages some good people from having their fun and more imporantly, actualy bring some sence into this cap stuff...
I myself have never owned a cap... i just recently got a cruiser (corvo btw, one of the cheapest and not really combat worthy, perfect for RP tho) and look at my join date...
Right now, you either have to prepare your nerves for insamely boring/repetitive/painful/whatever trading or mining.
Or have a above average knowledge in photoshop...
Other than that, i really dont see any other way of making money...
(powerpirating was left out for obvious reasons)
P.S.: Ohai Commisar... Aigis missed you... give me a shout later, will ya?
Yes. Earning moneys here are hard. I never had something bigger than transport, any liners too. However, it doesn't saddens me very much... sometimes. I'm not able to earn very much credits per week, since I'm able to log in Freelancer for two days per week (don't forget that sometimes there are days when I just can't go ingame), so dreams about big capital is only dreams and there's no chances I'll get one.
Selfish capitalism was discussed here before and Q_Qing won't change anything. Just try to ignore all stuffs which is bad. At least it helped in Soviets.
I was originally hoping to RP a LN Dread and fighter group on here when I first joined. I have now accepted I will never get anything bigger than the Assault Battlecruiser I have right now, hell I only just had the patience to get this far, I guarantee I won't get any further.
Prices -> trading, mining -> traffic -> pirates -> police/navy.
Who would want to RP a trader? (Without ANY need to?) How many people? How would it affect their motivation to act as they should act if they had nothing to lose and nothing to gain? (Same applies to pirates).
In addition, the time players need to earn money improves the probability of being exposed to good/better/any RP before they buy the CAU8 BS.
Generally I like what you wrote, Crackpunch. Especially that part:
Now I see a lot of opposition to mining being profitable. Most of this opposition comes from the people that already have all the ships they want. Being selfish, they think "Well I've got my stuff, so I don't care what other people want." You notice how low the server population has been with mining nerfed? It's a ghost town. The amount of less-than-RP-capables on the server is about the same though; so that really did nothing other than scare off a few players.
