So, they were supposed to be the "bombs" in vanilla cuz caps only had hull without shield, but now we have bombers and caps with overpowered shield, so I guess fighter torps should get balancing, otherwise MR would be just better than them.
simplest thing that could be done is to buff their damage, and make sunnies a bit stronger, they're just as strong as MRs right now (I think), but the thrust delay and using ammo makes it not used much
the other thing could be turning them into a sort of "Heavy Missile", that could work like Real Life missiles, with higher tracking, speed, longer range and hits hard, so someone would REALLY want to evade those. I guess it fits the "fighter" role pretty well
So do you think they need balancing? or should they be completely new ones?
Hmmm, a CD tracking Torp missile with, say, a MR damage..
I would enjoy that a lot, but only if it had a good enough engine delay, so it is not used while jousting.

Yea, they are kind of pointless right now. Not sure a MR bolt with CD tracking would be a good idea though. Considering that without power usage, HFs and even some bigger LFs can use these without much of a drawback. Angular fight. Drop mine and take out the enemy shield. Flip around early, and launch that torp while the enemy is in EK mode. Would be a rather easy and cheap kill.

I use starkillers quite often. That is the only useful torpedo together with Nova's right now. Sunslayer is total joke and bomber EMP torpedo is too weak to get interested in.
Starkillers and Sunslayers have their uses... Starkillers being better for hitting fighters, and Sunslayers for hitting bombers and transports. Sunslayers do more damage than the MR at least.
Really right now the only buff I would want for them is so they do not explode in a single CD hit.

Starkiller being better for killing fighters that what? Sunslayer maybe because of the delay but i think that the benefit of tracking (that may or may not be there because of the server load) ad low power consumption doesnt ballance 1/3 less damage and ammo usage than MR. Even with low server load the tracking is not exactly sufficient for your average fighter (sabre, eagle, touketsu).
As for Sunslayer, i think the name is fitting. Remember sun is huge, realy huge, almost unbelievably so and its not moving too fast either so its pretty hard to miss it. However, Sunslayer somewhat fails at hitting anything that is not a stellar object with own gravity well. Like ships in freelancer for example. If you get rid f the delay, it would be usable because of the explosion and that tiny bit of tracking. If you want to keep the delay, it needs its damage buffed considerably.
Problem with Missles/Torpedos vs Fighters or light bombers are here as well. no matter how big damage Sunkiller (:D) will do - if lag/bug/server/player numbers will make more lags then you need to hit enemy with a missle/torpedo - all that will ruin your chances. so yes, MR or MP (mini-pulce) is your saviour if you sniper or just lucky

Hey it might cut down those 1 hour + fights we get!
Still be vulnerable to lag though.
Any missile of this level of power would have to have a cargo value of say, 10 units, assigned to it.
This would automatically balance out LFs and HFs, by virtue of their smaller cargo holds. It also means you cant just spam them, they have to be used carefully to greatest effect.
And no reason the launcher couldn't use energy as well...
Tempted to say, make it a singleshot one then. 's possible to make a weapon damage itself on use if I read the config files correctly.
