I've found that if I need a mind-altering substance to have a good time, I'm doing something wrong. Lots of complex pseudophilosophical reasons for that, but that's a post for another time.
Cigarettes and alcohal may be leagalized, but I've seen them do 9999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999 points of damage to people, and 0 points of good.
Cigarettes do all bad, no good. People like to say they do good, but they don't. There is no good side to cigarettes unless you like smelling bad, looking like a moron or dying early.
Marijuana is perfectly fine for most people in moderation, it has a few positive side effects and very few negative ones, that's why people fight so much to have it legalised.
Drugs make you stupid, weed included, cigarettes give you nothing at best.
I wanted to rant a bit about smoking, btw. I mean, all this society aspect of it. People use smoking as just the excuse to socialize, be it at work or even at unis. That's really retarded when people need other people to go smoking, and it happens all the time. At my last work, for example, it was allowed to smoke at your place, unless other people around didn't want you to, and guess what? Only a handful of pipe smokers were smoking just because they are used toke it, everybody else still went to "lounge". In groups. Because they were probably too afraid of saying "let's go hang out" instead of "let's go have a smoke". Pah.

Most consumers themselves have misconceptions on the substances they take. As a fact, nicotine in cigarettes is a stimulant. So it is quite funny when a smoker asks to go smoke to calm himself down...while he is actually stressing himself even more (biologically).
Point of this is that stress is all in the head. For example, when someone has an anxiety attack, paramedics will usually fake giving oxygen to the person and it will do the trick because the person's mind will believe she is breathing O2.
To me, it's like anything... if you abuse... you'll screw yourself up. There are also a few drugs that are way too dangerous to be made available, opium is one...which can make you stop breathing and block your air ducts (kind of throat collapse because the muscles relax too much). I don't take drugs personally, I don't find the need for it.
in my opinion, they not forbiden without reason?

First of all, there are many different kind of drugs: stimulants, depressants, hallucinogens.... with different effects, so you cannot put them all in the same group Also some of them makes you addicted, others not.
Eg. Weed doesn't make you psy or body addicted, but there can appear psychological malfunctions, depends of personality so can't be generalized. Only two things can say for sure: after time you will just quit, or you will become addicted to heroine. But, I haven't seen people addicted to weed, they are addicted to weed just like to chocolate.
But, when you take cocaine as example it is different. Cocaine imitates dopamine effect (dopamine is neuro-transmitter and every person has it in body) that makes good feeling. Cocaine forces body to produce more dopamine, and brain becomes overwhelmed by dopamine quantity. When effects disappear brain is not able to produce normal quantity of dopamine because it was overloaded, feeling is not good, and person needs more.
Hallucinogens (lsd, mescalin, shrooms)- you cannot become addicted, and you will give up after first bad trip, senses will lie to you, can be bad, can be good, and if you have psychotic predispositions, you can easily go crazy. They distort your brain.
When someone die by taking hallucinogens, he didn't want to commit suicide, his senses lied him ("it is not 5th floor, it is 1st, i can jump")
Heroine doesn't make you psychical addicted, but makes your body addicted very heavily.... When people overdose by heroine - that are never intended suicides, they just take too much...
You will sooner become addicted on alcohol than on any drug cause it is legal and it makes you addicted faster.
Do what you wish and what you feel is right, nobody is forcing you to drink or smoke. Cause no matter how you are taught on things, the choice to take it or not is ultimately up to you. Not that I drink or smoke, but I do respect the choices of people that do and mind my own business.

I'd like to detest this part. Marijuana actually does very little compared to other drugs. Compared to other widely used drugs (alcohol, tobacco, opiates) a smaller percentage of cannabis users become dependent. Marijuana has repeatedly been proven to NOT cause cancer, heart disease, brain damage, liver disease, emphysema, or any other significant health issue, and its addiction potential is about on par with coffee. There are hundreds of thousands of deaths each year because of alcohol or cigarettes, but you aren't likely to find a hundredth of that amount caused by marijuana in all of history. The reasons it is banned are purely commercial: Hence its name, it grows like a weed, meaning anyone can grow and sell it. It isn't controllable by companies like pharmaceuticals and alcoholics. It can be grown by anyone, because it is a natural drug, something that distinguishes it from crack, meth, cigarettes and alcohol. As an elsewhere-forumgoer put it:
Quote:1) Because the government can't regulate it to get its cut (sin taxes). It takes a lot more effort to cultivate tobacco or brew alcohol than it does to put a plant in a pot and watch it grow.
2) Because society has decided that it doesn't want it around. Then again, I have a hard time trying to figure out why I would want to ingest something that a) makes me needlessly hungry, b) compels me to sit in the corner for three hours contemplating the wonders of string, c) impairs my ability to count and do other basic math, and d) provides a false escape from the world around me.
A million dollars isn't cool. You know what is cool? A basilisk.
