Well, this convo has run it's course, but I will say that if a trader //'s me and tells me they have little money, or there trying to save up for this or that....I immediately leave my in rp role and usually let them go....I'm not here to ruin anyones fun.
' Wrote:the ones that get uppity, charge all my cargo or outrageous amounts, i tell to piss off, because i know ill respawn at the base i picked my cargo up, not out that much money.
Is that good RP? "I won't pay, just kill me so I can respawn'? Outrageous amounts of cash? What about your ship? What about your life or the life of your crew?
Of course sometimes pirates will demand all your cargo so they can take it home or destroy it. Would it be good RP for a 'sair to let a trader supply their enemies or to let a full load of goods get to the houses instead of taking it to Gamma?
There are a lot of pirates with no sense of RP but the 'lolwut' traders outnumber them by far and I don't understand why a large part of this community refuses to admit that.
Edit: also what Daedric said. Pirates are there to take your stuff, not to have a cup of tea with you while waiting for the military caps to arrive
' Wrote:This is just a small rant but as a good percentage of veterans keep poofing cause of things like
this I want to just ask a small request of the pirates that stop traders.
More RP less pew pew!
Is that so hard?
Like seriously I stop every time for pirates and try to talk to them have a little RP conversation with them
and I get shot at cause Im not giving you your money. Like really whats your problem! Im going to pay you
instead of making it harder and giving you nothing!
All you indy pirates. I MEAN ALL! need to learn to RP cause I have yet to find a non faction pirate that RPs.
Read your post, had a look at a few of the other posts. So many pages in such a short time.
As far as RP goes, well, I'm not so good at it.
The thing is, as some pirate players have probably already posted, pirates have X amount of time to do their thing, depending on where they are.
Some pirates have fallen foul of the 'chatty trader' who is yelling for help via other comms.
I don't expect much from a pirate as far as RP goes. More than '2millordie' but less than, 'How is your family doing mate?'.
The best one was ages ago in Bretonia I think it was. I was basically 'held up' and asked to make a 'donation'.
The worst one was very recently, where I had half my hull shot away before the pirate tried to open a TRADE exchange after asking for a million dollars.
Haven't used the 'trade' screen for ages, so I shut it down... TWICE. Then he blew my hull away again (I had used bots to restore), but stopped firing after I told them I was doing a 'givecash'.
Yep, pirates happen, if you are a trader you *WILL* come across a pirate at one point.
The funniest thing I'm seeing currently are the people who are naming their ships <insert name>_trader.
It's like waving a flag and saying 'come get me pirates!'.

Its really hard to explain - it comes from that part of the human brain that just says "Eff this" and ragequit - *shrug* in essence, ill explain it like this - if i run into a pirate who wants not only my cargo, but also like, lets say 20 mil - i dont consider that worth paying, for any amount of rp reason - so i wont. i will, in essence, from that part of me that gets angry and offended, to just refuse to give in to this behavior, rp reason or no.
i will say, i have never had to do that - but two of my friends have run into pirates that have asked for all cargo and unreasonable amounts (in one case, more money then the char could realistically have - 10mil, and this character was flying a rhino hauling for a measly 300k a pop)- both of them tried negotiating in-char to something more reasonable, and were just shot for their trouble.
Ive also paid out 4 mil to a group of pirates, even when they said i didnt have too. so im hardly coming from a personal Q_Q position when it comes to pirate-hate.
As well - a pirate that blows up a trader will have the ships cargo spill out before him - its often more profitable for the pirate to get the cargo, not the payout, but theyll ask for that too. so, in the end, whether the pirate gets a blue message and some cargo, or some unreasonable amount (maybe equal to what they would get for that cargo) - its basically a win-win for the pirate either way.

Take it for what it's worth.
Well, i guess you're rping quite a dumb pirate. If things like that'd work on pirates, oh my, what a pony-filled world would disco be. And dumb, too. When i see traders go //, i kill them. Then eat their bodies and burn the resulting feces in a star. Good thing we have someone to encourage oorp, tho.
When I'm on Rush, who's basically a zealot who wants to convert everybody to his perverted anarchist view of a Free Dublin, I ask traders to drop their shields and bats/bots.
That way I can talk to my heart's content, knowing I can destroy them easily.
Surprisingly (not), very few acquiesce (mm, free gold ore).
The trick to good piracy coming out fun for both sides has nothing to do with the demand or the amount, but rather the skill involved.
Ergo, if a trader is presented with a zero-sum drop all or die, drop all or die, drop all or die, i dont care what you say, drop all or die, it becomes instantly unfun for him, as there is literally nothing he can do to prevent the loss of his cargo, rp notwith standing.
Sure, it's RP, but RP isn't all this server is about.
It's about the balance of RP with fun.
It's not losing that makes people qq.
It's a sense of helplessness, that no matter what, nothing they do can affect teh situation, eh?
gone four years, first day back: Zoners still getting shot in Theta :|

LOL....it's a game. People really take this stuff too seriously. I stand by what I said. It rarely happens, but when it does, I'll usually have a heart.
I should have mentioned that was more aimed at newer players....a level 80 trader in a mastodon will recieve no mercy. A level 31 in a mammoth might see me take pity.
Again, it's a game.
To each there own.
EDIT: By the by....aren't you a little ruthless to have fuzzy kittens as your sig? :P

word - internet fist bump
EDIT| yeah, because four words aint just a +1
Basically, we should all remember that in the case of pirating and rp pirating - there is the pirate, and the pirated - and honestly, BOTH sides should try and make it fun for the other. Traders who lolwhut or dont say a thing, have failed on their end - if they try and engage said pirate with talks about life, home, and the wife\kids, then he's missing the point, and well, better luck next time - if he's doing so just for distraction while he's got the cops on the other line, well, dangerous things can have great payoffs, or none at all.
Pirates need to balance their rp with the understanding that there is a player at the other end of the keyboard, and should remember that for the reason of trying to promote fun for all.
Pirate RP Does Not Equal No fun allowed - for either side.
