Today, I was flying my cruise ship through New York. I saw a Kusari BS with a merc ID, and an Outcast Dreadnought with a Liberty Rogue ID...I don't think I need to explain why that's just silly. Good to know we'll be seeing a lot less of such things. =)

I dont see why. I mean Mercs can currently use battleships, and Outcasts are allied to the Rogues. I think.

While being quite funny, your sig was the biggest one i've ever seen so far. No more than 700x250 please. ~utrack

Yes, but why would the Kusari - or any house - sell a BS to a merc? (note: this is a rhetorical question, I'm not aiming to start a discussion in here)

And I guess the Outcast Dread isn't really against RP, but it just doesn't seem like the sort of ship the Liberty Rogues would use.

But regardless, the main point - one I think most of us can agree on - is that it'll be good to see fewer Battleships and Dreadnoughts.

Wouldn't count on it. I know dang well there there will be plenty of people trying to find loopholes and such...

I see no one has bothered to check the Mercenary ID parameters yet then ? The battleship license for them
is actually a moot point. You will not be needing one, as you won't be flying them. Or cruisers for that matter
I'm afraid.
There is a tightening up of all capital ship usage generally, with the new Freelancer ID limited to gunboats and
below as well. Time to be part-exchanging one or two of those bigger mothers in for newer models.
I also forgot to mention earlier, that the Neutral ID is now only resident on the Lost Battlestar, and gets the
admin issue only ticket.
Heads-up ladies and gentlemen ... You ought to be thinking of changing these items very soon

Don't need a loophole... Everyone can still get at least one battleship, it just costs 350k more now.

And cruisers are going to be bloody popular.

I think I might see if I can effectively outfit my gunboats as capship killers.

Edit: Missed Hoodlum's post, so... YAY! Now we'll just have independent pirates and police and military characters whoring the battleships and cruisers. :P

...

Okay, all fine and nice, but I can't help have some serious reservations about this whole battleship-crusade thing. Anticipating this whole thing months ago, I sold off my beloved Liberty Dreadnought the Sanctifieriae a good six or seven weeks ago. Now I'm being told I have to choose between keeping two ships I have invested serious time into and poured my blood, sweat and tears into for months, Fantasia and Brick. Now, the Brick I've been hoping to avoid scrapping, but I was going to have to anyway because I can't afford to pay for the Foundation's flagship, which I hope to start around Christmas. But now they're telling me I'm not going to get to have that Outcast Dreadnought. I'm going to be stuck commanding a faction from a dinky little Outcast Destroyer, certainly a capable vessel for its intended role, but lacking a few very important quantities when it comes to being a Flagship, namely armor and guns. I realize it says that there will be exceptions for people with exceptional RP, but how do I know this includes me? I don't. For all I know, and as has been my experience in things like these, this exception will apply to a very select few. You can't even make an exception like that without making people angry and hurt, very hurt. Believe me, somebody important will get their feelings hurt, and we could end up with the South Alliance and Hellfire allying against the Phantoms and TAZ or some unholy situation like that. And how about me? I've just been told that my dream faction isn't going to happen unless I kill off characters that have literally been with me throughout most of my lifespan, characters that are quite literally a part of me, and a large one. Willow, the pinnacle incarnation of all the names I've called him, has to die. Sarah Dvorak, again the greatest incarnation of her character, must die. I'm going to have to kill part of myself to satisfy a server rule. I'm willing to pour ridiculous amounts of time into a ship and pay through the nose for it, but I can't kill off Willow and Mia. I'm about to get flamed, attacked, ridiculed and scorned in every way possible, but there are those of us who really do have more in our big ships than a size complex, and that needed to be said. Imagine taking away Korrd's Rheinland Bomber, the late Nightfall's Saber, Hobby's Prison Liner, Lancer's Liberty Dreadnought. I don't want that to happen to us.

Ok, I thought about things a little more... I'm all for limiting battleships and cruisers, but I don't think limiting mercs to gunboats is going to help matters. Generic pirates, generic military (unless it was removed), police, militaries (which are the ones that make sense), all the pirate NPC factions (even the smallest of them), Zoners... They can ALL load up on cruisers and (if they can afford them) battleships, and independents with these various IDs can still get a battleship or cruiser... But the poor mercenaries can't. This just means that fewer people will play capship whore as a mercenary, they'll just grab a different ID that lets them do it. How does this help matters?

If you're going to start limiting mercs, I think some more balancing needs to be done. Limit generic pirates, the smaller House-specific pirate factions, police, and Zoners to gunboats (I know, Zoners have their own bigger ships, but it doesn't make a lot of sense for there to be many of them). Get rid of the generic military ID (assuming it isn't already). Limit factions to the number of battleships/cruisers they can have, not just how many they can afford.
