@Unit-sk855 - Genius. I admire your RP background, and i agree with most of the aspects.
However, i did not see it like this before. But now, i must agree that only =BSG= should be enemies, and all the rest go to neutral. Now, i don't know if admins would like this, but do we realy need to have allies and friendlies? If we do, then it remains to us to arrange some kind of diplomatic status with Lane Hackers or Junkers (as they only can fit in our RP somehow). Now, i will also suggest abandoning shields and using balistic-like weapons. We will ofcourse be underpowerd in battle, but at least not called "pvp whores". I hope that will stop Unselie and the rest from whining about using Marauders as well.
Thanks for the help provided, we realy needed it.
And i am glad that we are over with that flaming war. As i said, Unselie, you can go somewhere else to complain about ships in Discovery mode, we are not realy interested in you'r flame-attacking offtopic. If i may say, you are not wanted on this subject either, you'v stated you'r opinions, now you can stop it. Thank you kindly.
Now, i hope Unit-sk855 gave you all an example of what needs to be said on this thread, so i'm looking forward to reading more stuff of that type. It is actualy much more usefull then those "Oh another non-FL faction", or "Throws rocks" stuff.
My intentions were to have the cylons in my folowing events obtain shields and better weapons to make later battles more challenging. Im by no way suggesting the faction not use them entierly, i was just showing that i went to the extremes of RPing out my scenario in order to have it work along with the disco universe.
Though the story never really got the development i hoped, it was funny on occasion to have people double take my ships loadout. It got old really fast though when i realized people could not look past that and into my rp.

' Wrote:I guess I have to agree with Drake here, though personally I'd like to just turn ALL the non-FL factions away. All factions here should have roots to Freelancer as their basis, not to a TV show's RP basis, that was converted to be put in Freelancer (and the background of BSG 'just warping out here to Sirius' isn't converting.. Thats not really RP at all, and doesn't cover any aspect as to why it should be an FL faction, or here in Sirius. It was made when we had lax requirements, and wouldn't exist if it were started today).
I'm sorry....
[color=#FF6600]ASGARD WARRIORS?!?
[color=#FF6600]*cough* Stargate SG-1! *cough*
As was said, if we are going to turn the Cylons away just for being non FL, all must go.
It's a fairly well done attempt at creating a faction here. Yes their RP is borrowed, but many of the factions here have borrowed their RP from non FL ideas - in fact my Black Dragons are totally ripped from the Yakuza.
I say give them a chance - this is not a BSG server, but we have a BSG faction and I guaran-damn-tee that if a group of humans from that area fled to Sirius the Cylons would eventually follow them.
If it turns out that they do a fantastic job RP'ing Cylons, who are we to judge?
freelancers.
thats who we are to judge.
we are freelancers, judging alien invaders from a different universe, breaking the physics of each universe to exist in the other.
I totally understand what you are saying Unseelie, and I agree. It's just kind of hypocritical to tell them they can't do it when BSG and others already have.
Oh, I want the BSG wiped out....
and their ships removed, and the firefly removed...and any other group...dunno about the AW (for reasons of being sourced from Stargate)
its just a lot easier to get rid of a faction before it is established.
the BSG have become respected members of the server (god knows why....) with some form of RP (though I haven't seen it, at least they fly ships that make sense)
the point is, a faction proposal is much easier to kill than a faction.
and....
BSG is too established.
I'm going to wait them out.
they will die.
If only because all their members leave.
Here's my idea: What about original Cylons? Marauder is ship from the original BSG, and so is Viper mk1. Although most people here seem fascinated with new BSG series, over old ones, I tend to disagree. Don't get me wrong. I love the fact new BSG exists (cos there's nothing to top it), but I dislike some aspects of it.
1st would be new craft design (Mk2 seems like a badly modeled clay statue of the Mk1, and MkVII is uninventive and actually ugly enough to be confused with one of the original FL ship models). New CYLON raider design on the other hand seems to originate from the 1980. "Space Invaders" video game.
2nd would be the "new cylons" (too humanoid, too perplexed, too preaching, too exposed, too soap opera/kitchen philosophy like and on top of that: too "terminator OMG we brought this on our selves - machines rebelling" like).
Now, lets consider original cylons. I'll use Star Trek "ultimate baddies" reference to them, The Borg! (I'm sure all of u have some carnal knowledge of Star Trek and the Borg, since playing SF related game). The Borg are ultimate baddies in StarTrek, being scary cos they'r: cybernetic, no individuality. hive minded creatures bent on destroying/assimilating anyone different. Now guess what? CYLONS were ALL THAT looooooong before them (now why that original brilliant stuff had to be altered in new BSG I don't get, but what's done is done).
Anyway, back to my point: How about RPing those? They'r much simpler and easier to RP and understand, and their motives are quite comprehendible. They are the ULTIMATE Xenos (now not to be confused with FL Xenos). Their objective is to annihilate anything that is not CYLON. (now don't all start crying "PVP whoring just yet). Being isolated group of Cylons, stranded in Sirius, and yet highly evolved AI/cybernetic organisms, CYLON will use every available mean for achieving their ultimate goal. They will: Scout, Spy, Trick, Divide than conquer and even Allie themselves with certain human factions / recruit ill minded human individuals to their cause. CYLON primary targets should be ofc colonials, simply due to the fact they'r aware of their strategic and military potential (since loosing many battle to them before), and thus seeing that as the greatest obstacle. 2nd should be The Order, since they have considerable force and technology and are self-proclaimed defenders of the human race against alien threat. 3rd would be all house military/police forces as further obstacles to their goal. Cylons are low in number, isolated, stranded but not stupid. They'll be hostile only to colonials, and unfriendly to 2nd and 3rd factions, cos they realise their position and abilities at this time. Bare in mind we'r only a handful of marauders that somehow managed to follow colonials to Sirius. Cos of need of spare parts Cylons should have friendly or better diplomatic relations to Junkers, and Zoners, and possible Lane Hackers. Lane Hacker / Cylon relations could be base on mutual benefits of cooperation between hackers and highly evolved cybernetic processors and learning AI software (cylons have the ability of understanding an controlling most electronic/computerized equipment including: trade lanes, Jump Gates, automatic docking/repairing stations which could prove invaluable to LHs). Rest should be neutral, as small and weak cylon force cannot afford to have more hostiles at this moment, then they can handle (Allthough, Cylons ultimate goal, will and forever be: Annihilation of everything non Cylon). Bear in mind, we'r only few marauders, so any talks about capships are way off IMHO. Also, Cylons have "network/hive mind" so there shouldn't be any commanding unit, but decision should be made cooperatively. However, Cylons should have one "PR" unit, official, responsible for negotiating with humans and keeping diplomatic relations. Sort of "spokesman" to execute decisions made by the "network mind" (if ur a CYLON I urge u NOT to make rash onesided decisions before consulting with the rest of us).
Cylons should not be too talkative. If marauders are encountered and addressed by human vessels, u should not expect direct response, but rather scrambled/coded transmission between marauders or marauders and cylon base (it would be nice for CYLONs to sound metalic/robotic, but since sound is hardly an option, best we can do is use kinda "coded text" comprised of letters and numbers. If u have some diplomatic issue with them, U CAN transmit to any encountered marauder, but expect to get answer only through standard diplomatic channels (or by decoding some transmissions between cylons themselves).
Any hostile act toward any CYLON marauder, will result automaticly in hostility with all other cylons and that faction will be considered a viable target (exectly how animosity between cylon and outcasts started).
Well this was my piece of RAM..err..mind.
Shoot ur hearts out and flame as u feel fit.
The goal is to achieve a happy medium between discovery RP and your idea for your faction. You clearly want to play Cylons and thats fine with me. Some members of the community hate the idea of crossovers. I sympathize with them. The problem is, the ships are in the game, they bring in members, and they are a GOOD thing for the community as a whole by promoting RP potential and greater possibilities outside of just freelancer. This brings in more people interested in the server because of the existence of the ships that they are fans of.
This can be a good thing if its done correctly. Some may dissagree, if they do well... sucks to be them as long as your doing good for the community and not just wrecking it.
Now to do good for the community you have to put discovery RP style first. That means mainly do not ever, and i mean EVER, pull a "Too bad we are here, deal with us". I know you do not have that mindset, but dont fall into it. I saw it happen already with a couple factions that started out with good ideas, and it degenerated into them trying to do what they wanted, it harmed more than helped the development of roleplay, and they ended up leaving within a week or so of creation.
Now to do good for the community and follow the Discovery RP standards you need a good solid diplomacy that you follow to the grave. First and foremost, i suggest dropping the hivemind we shoot you and become hostile to you if you attack us idea set. This will NOT work for one main reason. You are just starting out here, you will lack the support you need to fend off your new found foes. You will log on every day to a player base that have set up their ships, fleets, and allies to destroy their enemies. they have hours of logged practice in tactics, and ship loadouts are perfected. Your newer players will be destroyed repeatedly, they will get mad, they will flame, and they will get sanctioned and you will all look bad.
Im not trying to say you guys suck at flying, heck i have not even seen you in game at all. I have however seen this happen time and time again in new clans/factions/groups on every online game i have ever played. Trust me, if you want to succeed, use the SUC in succeed. SUCk up to as many established factions on the other side of the BSG vs You conflict that you desire. Get your diplomacy set up, and follow it. Put the BSG war on the backburner until you get allies, and most certainly do not tick off anyone other than the BSG and their allies.
You are going to be dealing with the BSG, and the corsair factions mainly. However it seems as though you shot the AW. Of course one instance for them was enough to go KOS towards you. I wish i could have warned you about them before you started. Get on that fast, resolve that issue, and do not get them mad. They have guns, BIG guns, and are tied tightly to the outcast side of things. The outcasts are going to be your only real hope of an ally, so do what you can to make amends with them. I see that youve started this already, keep it up. If you want to survive, you need allies. It doesnt matter if you are the best pilot on the server, when you log on you will have your enemies coming across systems to kill you, especially if you stick with certain factions that youve had conflict with.
You will be swarmed and destroyed for whatever reasons anyone can find to do it. I will say that picking cylons pits you against a faction that will fight you on fair terms if you respect them. And by respect them i mean fight fair, and in good spirit. I dont mean bend over backwards for them, or treat them kindly or better than anyone else. Respect is different than sucking up. Suck up to your allies in a RP way. Offer to help them, explain your cause and justification, sway them with propaganda.
Second suggestion would be to further your sight setting on the bsg, and going from there. Stick with the BSG only. The cylons were attacking the colonies because of transgressions against the cylon race by the people of the colonies. The humans in sirius have taken no part in the war fought on the other side of the universe. The cylons may be machines, but they are evolved machines capable of the desire to live. By this they are also capable of acknowledging the existence of other races of man, and realizing that they have no reason to die just for being human. If the cylons manage to wipe out the BSG why would they then turn their attentions on the rest of humanity? Sirius is not going to try to enslave them, or wipe them out unless you tick off all of sirius.
You will have other human enemies if you fight the BSG. The corsairs will end up attacking you at some point if your battles get close to their space. BSG and corsairs are pretty close allies. Because of this, other corsair allies may end up fighting you also. My suggestion then would be to do what is being done towards a few key factions on this server right now. Attack your targets the BSG. If you destroy them, leave the others alone. So if there is one BSG fighter chilling with 5 corsairs, kill the BSG and leave the corsairs alone. This way you have caused no hostilites other than attacking their allies, and a personal war should stay personal. Dont give them a reason beyond ally killing to come across the universe on a personal revenge trip to kill you.
Now dont be afraid to ask people out of game questions about making diplomacy work. If you want to be allies with someone, contact them out of game and get some information about their faction and what you would have to do to be friends with that faction. This is what you would call "meta gaming" but at the same time it isnt. Its just being smart, you set yourself up for success rather than shooting in the dark and possibly hitting your potential friends in the face.
The last thing i would like to point out is that no one on the server is allowed to blast you into submission. There are rules here about harassment and it has been a sanction able offense to continue attacks when one of the sides does not want the attacks to continue. If you get in to deep you can always work it out in some way. Im speaking strictly in the case of your diplomacy gets so messed up your faction becomes unplayable. This has happened to a few new factions, and some people did set out to specifically shoot them off the server. If it starts to happen, analyze the situation, if you can see a chain of events leading to the situation then peace treaties are in order. You will have to suck up the losses and repercussions that will placed on your faction, but it gives you time to rebuild and reform a new diplomacy that will be stronger than the first. Of course you have to leave your pride at the door for this to work. Some factions dont do that and let themselves die over changing.
Just remember the two main things.
Implement your RP into discovery RP and change your RP to fit the server and its rules over the other way around.
Keep your diplomacy in check, watch who you shoot, and self defense is the best way to do this. open attacks on your enemy the BSG are fine, but dont attack other factions unless you are prepared to deal with the consequences.
I write way to much, but i try to help just as much:D

If you were to take all the ideas from all the Sci-fi, games, movies, books, magazines, mens bathroom scrawlings, and bar napkins you'll find a certain amount of bleed over in all of them. Very rarely is anything original presented anymore (and is then repackaged over and over again) I respect the wishes of the FL purists and even agree with them to a point. But if we stay within the confines of the familure then there is no room for growth and we end up rehashing the same tired RP again. Like I said I respect your opinion and thank you for at least giving us a shot. We'll live or die based on our RP and I can live with that.
As for the marauder, it wasn't my first choice. I was afraid that the other cylons would shun me if I didn't want to fly one, and I took a leap of faith by making my ship a Kiith SHF (not a good choice) Thankfully the Cylons seem to be a good batch of players and forgave me. If the marauder is messed up I respectfully ask that whoever the great powers that be could look at fixing it (or maybe importing a raider to match the viper:)) As I said before RP is and should be the end all in these matters. The marauder is an allowed ship as is the Kiith line of ships. As self actuallizing Cylons we can make that choice.
I officially mark this topic closed and humbly request that the admins do your thing. I thank each and every one of you for your input and hope to see you in the far reaches of Sirius.
' Wrote:Please DON'T use the ONLY cylon ship as a CYLONS? As a favor to whom? All those "RP conscious" people flying Blood Dragon HF (that is equally hard to hit as marauder is, but with double the firewpower and more armor)? Or people flying "Raven's Talon" instead of say "Saber" just cos' its harder to hit? Or those flying Rheinland Snoobnose bombers armed with Coladas? Or maybe to those flying as house military but armed with outcast only "inferno" cannons?
Marauder can be easily destroyed just as any other fighter, or even easier, if u know how.
=BSG= guys destroyed 3x =CYLON= marauders so far, and as our main opponents never complained. I was even destroyed by a razor hit from Viper once.
Id just like to add that your using a minority of this community to get away with flying a bugged ship? nice one.
You could call the titan bugged because it crumbles if hit with a mine or torpedo with its shield down even if it has a armor upgrade, it looses its wings in a single hit, do you see anyone in the brotherhood flying other ships? nope, do you see 101st flying RTs? nope they fly sabers, do you see the RM flying anything but Rhindland ships?, or the QCO flying only Britonion ships even though there ugly as hell and suck pretty bad?.
Theres hardly anyone that flys the Blood Dragon fighter so thats pointless.
Does it piss me of that some factions like the RoS fly RT's instead of sabers? yes it does but its a minority, most factions on this server fly what RP says they should.
The reason that ships like the Marauder and the BD fighter aren't used is because there bugged, also the RT is pretty easy to hit aswell as the wrath so your argument doesn't work, no ships have a messed up hitbox like the Marauder.
At the end of the day your using a ship that is bugged to hell and you no it, and using the minority of this community as an excuse to carry on using such a bugged ship which is lame.
On topic,
Now im not totally against this faction, the thing that concerned me is that even before you made this thread you had already started the faction ingame whichout even asking the community, not only that in this time period you attacked Outcasts, Bretionions, Zoners and thats only what ive read about, there is probably more, now what would someone reading this thing about such faction?, the fact that after all this you post this thread, find out that this community wont eccept such factions, then you decide to change, this is what bothers me.
And this is not a flame, its just my opinion on it.
