What next ? Oh yeah, faction relations. There's always at least one or two comm threads per week directed to the HC of an official faction. Now it's time to check the applications, verify who's active and who isn't, update the roster, correct the wiki and discuss suggestions for activity with your high command.

Maybe, in the future. Currently, the present officialty system is too distasteful for me to want to. I am posting these threads to try to improve the "taste," not to poison the brew.

He said this in the thread that warns faction they are on the chopping block but it is very valid here too.

The vast majority of us consider official factions to be the roleplay base for their particular NPC faction. That's why we have our faction rights, and I do believe there's a pinned thread somewhere in this moving chaos we call a forum under construction that states as such. If an official faction is to hold such a responsibility, does the administration ever check back up on the recent goings-on with a faction every once in a while to check that they're holding to the example the administrators want them to set?

Granted, I'm not behind the scenes, but I have this impression that unless a faction does something horribly and utterly catastrophic, y'all don't really poke your noses in again once official status has been reached, and even then the vote generally seems to be a matter of meeting the 30 hour rule to begin with.

I ask these questions in the name of ensuring that our official factions are held to the highest standards, my own included. We need to be kept on watch to be sure that we're providing the roleplay that's meeting the approval of the administration. Personally, I'd like to see a more active role in the administration working to observe a balance between time online and given roleplay within the faction and among other factions.

That said, now to a different note entirely. I know we've got the scheme so that an unofficial faction can challenge the currently official faction for a spot, but there's been kind of a grey area regarding the two IDs that still have multiple factions attached, the Corsairs and Zoners of course. I think we've all managed to reach a state of begrudging equilibrium at the very least, but what would happen if an unofficial faction were to gain enough steam to challenge for the spot? Would that result in the removal of all three factions?

Edit: Also, I really think this thread would be better served being moved to the Faction forum overview board. It's kinda buried down here. That's just my humble opinion, of course.

I'll agree, although in my opinion only the creation process is really a pain, once you become official it's a more manageable. It's pretty much because when still in the creation process, you can't recruit on the forums and you're restricted on several possibilities.

I honestly don't think this change would fix much. It sounds good in theory, but factions are just either going to die, or retain the power they already should or shouldn't have.

What's the use?

The criteria for staying official should be revised, as stated in the OP. The official faction creation process should be simplified and expedited. The 1-faction-per-ID rule should be cremated and scattered over Malta. The tech system needs to not be based on a chart straight out of a Midwestern town's 1950s corn silo zoning commission filing cabinet. Factions need more ingame /commands that reflect their roleplay. More on that last one later.
