If the Corsairs decimated the Mollys in Londonderry, the Mollys would be finished.
The Corsairs could take over Londonderry and push the Mollys out of Arranmore from the opposite direction as the BAF.
The only source of the 'Cork' incident knowledge is from the ol infocard.

The reason the new story was created was because it was pretty damn unfair to the Corsairs and also shafted their relations with the Gaians, all thanks to the Mollys being too pig headed when designing their system of gold.
This and the fact that the Corsairs being able to destroy Cork would've pretty much left a massive Corsair fleet sitting in Londonderry. Why would such a fleet then just fly away? If it didn't fly away, Molly's wouldn't own Londonderry.
