I'm not sure. You'd need to do something seriously bad in order to get outlawed - perhaps harbouring SCRA agents, or involving yourself with Mollys. Violence would be a good way to achieve that too.
If you want to preserve a 'good guy' story, an idea might be to have a militant fringe inside the group that represented a minority of the member's views and was not sanctioned by the party leadership.
From there, the minority could incite riots, and the government would use that as a pretense to crack down on the entire organisation. That could work, I guess. Sort of like BNP activists hijacking events against the will of other more moderate right-wing campaigners.
