If you want to preserve a 'good guy' story, an idea might be to have a militant fringe inside the group that represented a minority of the member's views and was not sanctioned by the party leadership.
From there, the minority could incite riots, and the government would use that as a pretense to crack down on the entire organisation. That could work, I guess. Sort of like BNP activists hijacking events against the will of other more moderate right-wing campaigners.
Actually I like the idea with the militants the most. parties like these also have problems to get their more liberal and the extremist members under one roof.
Very much comparable to the militants that the communistic and nationalistic parties had in the beginning of the 20th century, and to left- and right-extremist parties today (black block, skinheads etc).
