Marcus Wright

(the early years)

Marcus was born into a very dark life filled with tragedy and turmoil. His mother gave birth to him while serving time in Sugarland prison. She had committed many crimes working as a Xeno and had been sentenced to life. Without the possibility of parole she would eventually die in prison. During her stay she was subject to much harassment from the guards. Even being raped on more than one occasion by several of the officers. Marcus was conceived during one of those rapes.. and to the surprise of many she decided not to have an abortion. Some say she only wanted to remain pregnant so that she would be transferred from Huntsville. Still others claim it was a way for her to receive better treatment while in prison. It is possible that she had a desire to see something good come from her after all the bad she had done. Whatever the reason Marcus was born and placed into a segregated section of Sugarland prison for children.

Since this facility is government funded most children are never placed up for adoption. Instead most were kept in secret and when old enough sold as slaves. Marcus was no different and at the age of four he was sold to a company. The company was infamous for using slaves and children as cheap labor. He was placed on a transport that was to be sent to Kusari. That transport would never arrive but instead shot down by a group known for attacking slavers. While they were against slavery and slavers this group had no regard for the human lives on board. Leaving the slaves to float in escape pods they were all left to die. As days passed one by one the slaves died as their oxygen stores depleted. A few days following the attack a group of Junkers were scavenging the area. They happened upon the wreckage and began searching the pods for signs of life. Out of the five thousand pods jettisoned only a small few were recovered that managed to survive. Marcus was one of the few and was transported to Beaumont. It was here he was given to a group of Junkers that lived on Houston. This was the first time in his life he would actually receive proper treatment.

For the most part things were getting better but still his life was far from easy. Growing up on the meanest streets in one of the worst cities on Houston was tough. The Junkers he stayed with taught him everything he knew. By the age of seven he could work on equipment, salvage components and even fight. After school each day he would join the Junkers that worked at a scrap metal business owned by Jack Trenton. The Junkers ran the business and Jack would supervise to insure it did well. Here he met Jack's son James Trenton.

At first Marcus did not care for James because he saw him as a rich kid with a privileged life. Marcus did not understand why James would choose to come and work with the Junkers at the scrapyard. That all changed one day when Marcus was confronted by several bullies that stopped him on his way to the yard. Only about a mile from the scrapyard he was outnumbered and being beaten. James had seen the fight and brought it to the Junkers attention. They rushed to Marcus's side and sent the bullies running in fear. He was shocked to learn that James was the one that saved him. From that day forth Marcus and James became lifelong friends.

Marcus as an adult was headstrong, determined and occasionally hotheaded. Once he decided he was going to do something, he would not stop until he succeeded. Also it was advisable to stay out of his way and he never took obstacles lightly. He only allows himself to get close to a select few. Once he does, he becomes fiercely defensive of them'€¦ and did anything for their protection. Loyal almost to a fault, and as a result is deeply affected by betrayal.

Never knowing his father and after learning about his mother Marcus has a deep seeded resentment for the Xenos and the Liberty Police. His hatred for them is only equal to his love for the Junkers and James Trenton.
