"Nice shot," Lana complimented Ray's aim as she looked briefly at the two bodies on the ground in disgust.
Gunfire continued from within the building and echoed in the dark alley where Ray and Lana stood. A stray shot came through the open doorway and shattered a nearby a window. Lana ducked and dragged Ray to the ground. Ray landed on top of Lana's soft body and remained still until Lana gave him a questioning look.
"Oh, sorry, we need to get to lose the heat."Ray said as he pushed himself up.
Lana got up and patted away the dust on her cloak, then replied,"I know a safe-house just outside this district. Let's move."
As she spoke, Lana spotted a hover-cycle parked at the end of the alley. She got to it, hopped on and started its engine with basic hacking. Lana took a helmet from its storage compartment and handed it to Ray at the back.
"Death traps, these things," Lana gave a remark and held the throttle to the vehicle. The hover-cycle produced a high pitched whirr sound and propelled forward.
The duo arrived at Lana's safe-house, situated near one of the sprawling city's remaining green belts. It was a moderately sized single detached house isolated from the rest of its estate and with a generous amount of land. Lana rode the hover-cycle into the parking area and got off. She worked with her holo-com and touched a few controls. The house front door unlocked and the hallway lit up, while the hover-cycle outside slowly sunk into the underground garage by a lowering platform.
"This used to be my boyfriend's," Lana explained as she threw her backpack onto the couch in the living room and walked to the kitchen,"it was kindly given to me after his boss... fired him."
Ray followed and listened, he seemed marveled by his partner's resourcefulness and numerous possessions.
"Drink?" Lana offered Ray a small glass of spirit as she poured her own, then downed it in one gulp, "help yourself to whatever you need, except my guns in the basement of course. I'm heading upstairs to chill."
