I don't really understand the Freelancer ID, not the rules and what not I get that. My question is how does the freelancer ID fit into the RP universe. We have the generic Merc ID, the Miner, the Trader, the Smuggler, so whats the point of the Freelancer? And how does that work with the RP storyline, how do you know if they are friendly or hostile?

Some characters are strongly aligned. Some are weakly aligned, and some have virtually no alignment at all. This is as it should be, and enriches the Discovery universe. As you pointed out, the fact that not everyone is strongly aligned means you can't always tell at a glance how to interact with another player. That's a good thing. It makes encounters much more interesting, and encourages more effort and complexity in roleplay than simply "is this person going to shoot me?" or "can I shoot this person?"
