In most situations, a well piloted bomber can defeat a fighter. Because the bomber has more firepower, armor and nanobots than the fighter.

I still haven't flown a R Bomber but will get one this weekend, so until then I can't really comment other than to say that the ones I've fought against seem quite agile. Certainly more agile than the original Titan.
What Korrd says is possibly true if a pilot is very skilled, but I suspect that those that don't want changes are those that like flying the Bomber. Although there are ways to deal with agile fighters, agility does count for a lot if a pilot knows how to use it. The Bomber should have no agility advantage over any fighter.
For me it's just a question of game logic and balance - something with 2 torp mounts shouldn't fly like a fighter, it should as Dab says be more like a freighter. Otherwise everyone will want a Bomber and no-one will want to fly anything else - just like the original Eagle. Making it more expensive doesn't really solve that.
