I am not sure about those rules. However, it is exploitable.

Imagine a Bunter Sea Serpent without the top and bottom fins. Its hitbox size is VERY small. It makes it very much harder to hit and yet still maintains the 4 gun firepower.

This is the same with ship models that have wings or fins that do not have weapons on them. By removing the wings or fins, your hitbox is reduced, dramatically.
