About structural integrity of ships

What the other people have said is true, you just have to damage the sections you want to blow off.

However, I think there are some weird rules regarding blowing bits of your ship off and never repairing them.

I am not sure about those rules. However, it is exploitable.

Imagine a Bunter Sea Serpent without the top and bottom fins. Its hitbox size is VERY small. It makes it very much harder to hit and yet still maintains the 4 gun firepower.

This is the same with ship models that have wings or fins that do not have weapons on them. By removing the wings or fins, your hitbox is reduced, dramatically.
