A new writeup for Kiretsu has been written.

New Version

Old Version for comparison

The major change, is the ZoI of the faction.

Quote:Zone of Influence

Kusari - Full Operations
Rheinland - Full Operations
Liberty - Smuggling Operations
Bretonia - Lawful Trading
Taus - Full Operations
Sigmas - Full Operations
Omegas - Smuggling Operations, Lawful Trading
Omicrons - Supply Contract Operations

This is the main change. And what I expect to be the most contentious part is that the faction ZoI now includes all of Sirius (but not Gallia).. However, what happens where is restrictive. For example, while the Omegas are inside our ZoI, they are only inside the ZoI for smuggling operations, -not- for piracy or ordinary combat against enemies.

Full Operations = We do everything there. We pirate, we smuggle, we fight our enemies, we extort other smugglers.
Smuggling Operations = We smuggle. Nothing more, nothing less.
Lawful Trading = Self-descriptive. We're not criminals there, and it's a good place for us to collect goods.
Supply Contract Operations = We only go here to drop off, or pick up, goods used to fulfill supply contracts.

Why we're doing what we're doing, where;

Kusari - No explanation needed.. Well, I hope not. If you need an explanation, than you need to read up on Kusari lore.

Bretonia - We're considered semi-lawful in Bretonia, as are all Golden Chrysanthemums. While our goal is to eradicate megacorporations in Sirius, we can't do it without the help of... Megacorporations. It's a built-in contradiction. We're hypocrits, we know.

Liberty - While Liberty is the biggest source of megacorporations in Sirius, and is home to some of the biggest, we won't be actively fighting them for four reasons;
  1. We don't want them to realize we're criminals for as long as possible, so that our smuggling activities are in less danger.
  2. The Liberty Rogues and Hackers don't like people butting into their piracy, or attracting attention to themselves.
  3. Liberty has the strongest military except Gallia, and we don't want to waste resources or personnel fighting them.
  4. We're too busy already with Kusari and Rheinland, to spare combat resources against Liberty.
Rheinland - Being Kusari's ally, and a house with substantial unlawful presence, this house is the easiest to move into with the minimum effort and resources spent. Also, with our current motives, we expect to be able to form a camaraderie with Rheinland's like-minded pirates. It also offers us a lot of good smuggling opportunities, in supplying these pirate factions, as well as smuggling goods to Liberty from Rheinland, which might keep Liberty happy enough to "not notice" our more shady activities.

Gallia - Why we aren't there; Quite simply, Gallia is outside our realm of interest. Given their current military power, they aren't worth fighting again, the Hogosha are already going to be moving into that black market, as well as the Outcasts, so there really isn't any room for us there.

I'm trying to do this in a way that involves a minimum toe-stepping as possible. So if any faction leaders, especially those of police/military factions, have any issues with something in the new writeup, I encourage you to let me know and we'll try to work something out.

Why the change?

Well, it's quite simple. Activity and ability to play. The Golden Chrysanthemums as an NPC faction are not one of the more popular choices on Disco. As such, both the Kiretsu and the [GC] have always had activity problems and always had a hard time finding new members, and just as hard in keeping them interested in actually playing.

This is an attempt to make the faction more appealing to new members, and to give my current members something to actually do. Kusari is a pretty dull place a lot of the time, with the timezones between the factions rather spread out. Besides, shooting the same group of players with the same ships and loadouts, gets very boring, as does shooting the same dull, silent traders going through Kusari. Now if there isn't anything in Kusari to do, we can look for something in Rheinland, and if there isn't anything there either, we always have smuggling and supplying contracts.

Why is Kiretsu trying to extort other smugglers?

Because taking over as much of the black market as possible is a fairly useful thing to use to further our goals. For those of you who want to ask "but if you're trying to take over the black market, doesn't that make you, like the illegal version of a megacorporation?"

Well, yes. It does. Kudos to you for catching that. We're hypocrits.
