Mal pondered Sarah's question awhile before responding, toying with his own dessert..
"To be honest, Commander, I know little about the lady myself. Apparently she joined our 'Flock' during one of my... sabbaticals.
"She's very secretive about her 'agenda', although there are rumors that she and her little cabal of 'scientists' have attempted to meddle with human evolution, both physically and on the 'spiritual' level..."
Sarah seemed taken aback by his answer."And was she successful?"
"Well, I can only point to one rumored 'experiment' in answer.. that of Mnemosym's own daughter, Concordia..
"From my contact with the young girl, it seems she is extremely intelligent and.. 'loving'... perhaps overly so.
"But it also is quite obvious that Concordia's development has somehow been arrested.. and that she is not aware of her own potential.
"Personally, I believe that is the reason for Mnemosym's 'dark' aura and solitary demeanor. On the one hand, she still loves the girl, who is now afraid of her own mother..
"On the gripping hand, I think she is ashamed of her actions, but will not admit them, nor will she let love guide her path.
"I grieve for both mother and daughter; but my attempts at reconciliation have failed. I can only hope and pray that somehow, sometime, Goddess will intervene to show them both the 'way home'.."
Mal could sense that his comments had disturbed Sarah, tossing a blanket on her previous perky mood.
He placed his hand over hers on the table, and leaned closer.
"Sarah, that call I took earlier was rather urgent. I need to look into something for an old friend. Would you care to join me aboard my Geisha for a little 'fact-finding' cruise? I believe we have 'flown the colors' sufficiently here, eh?"
Within a matter of moments they had paid their respects to their host Leonardo, visited their quarters to collect their gear, and were walking towards Bay 1 and the E-Prime's waiting shuttle.
