Well, as i said, the technology we used was similar to commonly used shielding systems. The most suitable technology for such task is gravitron because it creates vibrating gravitational field which is able to deflect incoming force. Effectively creating an illusion of solid matter. However it creates a magnetic field as a side effect so unless shielded against magnetic force all ferromagnetic materials will be attracted towards the gravitron field generator.

Another thing is communication, this is but a rare case though. Random space elements can generate signals similar to those we use and thus are able to affect and/or confuse force field controls. In the most extreme cases, a common hand shake can have... um... destructive potential towards "victim's" hand...
