What do you think about CD's and Bombers and Gunboats.

you have to ask ( or everyone has to ask ) - what exactly is the role of the ship...

- a bomber is kinda meant to be a support ship against capital warships. ( that is support )
- bomber are like repair ships. - all alone, they are not ( quite ) meant to succeed. - but teamed up even with a weaker force - they are meant to turn the tide.

- a bomber - in a way... is similar to the battleship.

- if you think hard... a battleship has no shipclass that "it is MEANT to destroy" - other than its own class ( which doesn t quite count - as that applies to every shipclass )
- but it is meant to SUPPORT in a very heavy way. a bomber is meant to support in a light way, trading firepower and ( in theory survivability ) for agility, and the ability to hit key subsystems.

for that - keep in mind that the fleets BACKBONES are cruisers! - cruisers are the ships that are cheap enough, powerful enough and flexible enough to fit in almost every combat situation and shine.
if we had "hitzones" - a bomber would focus on weak spots - never wasting firepower on the hull of an enemies ship.

while other capital ships would simply try to breach an enemies vessel by overwhelming its thick hull.

too bad we do not have hitzones in freelancer though ( not really anyway - no bomber is really able to hit a battleships subsystems )

Agree, but this not really apply to current gameplay of disco. When you see, that 7 BS going to your system, your choice is: retaliatory capspamn, or bomber wave. (Or fighter spam in number of >2xEnemy cap ships)
Adding more and more "reality" can simply turn fun game into boring and tediouse.


P.S. Yeah, thats right, there no cap ships subsistems like engines, sensors, large cannons, bridge, and e.t.c.
wich could be destroyed by bombers much faster, than destroing whole ship. So that wny bombers used in same way as AC caps. Or bomber will be completely useless, if it couldn't harm BS.
