What do you think about CD's and Bombers and Gunboats.

- if you think hard... a battleship has no shipclass that "it is MEANT to destroy" - other than its own class ( which doesn t quite count - as that applies to every shipclass )
- but it is meant to SUPPORT in a very heavy way. a bomber is meant to support in a light way, trading firepower and ( in theory survivability ) for agility, and the ability to hit key subsystems.

for that - keep in mind that the fleets BACKBONES are cruisers! - cruisers are the ships that are cheap enough, powerful enough and flexible enough to fit in almost every combat situation and shine.
if we had "hitzones" - a bomber would focus on weak spots - never wasting firepower on the hull of an enemies ship.

while other capital ships would simply try to breach an enemies vessel by overwhelming its thick hull.

too bad we do not have hitzones in freelancer though ( not really anyway - no bomber is really able to hit a battleships subsystems )

I disagree with you on 3 points:
I don't pirate much in bomber- there is P transp for it, however I cannot agree on removing CD- bombers will be much more weaker, they are already weak enough to fit their role good.
I cannot agree that there are not hittable zones in the bigger ships too- you can sub-target every mountable element of the enemy ship so if the devs tweak the system and the stats of the battleship/cruiser/transport weapons and parts they could be effectively used to weak the enemy ship, cruiser without thruster is useless , or battleship without point defence weapons versus snubs, so nova tweaking for bombers is good thing- this in exchange of hit points boost for the cruisers and battleships.
On the Cruiser - all around ship- well this is not true- cruiser turrets rotate slower then the battleship ones so cruiser have less chance to hit snubs and gbs with main guns then BS- this is kinda weird and cruisers with currnet gun arcs and gun slots cannnot be all around ships- they fail big time versus snubs even if they are full solaris except one or 2 models of them- the ones who can actually fire on 360 with more then 3 -4 guns like 90% of the cruisers, cruisers fail big time versus battleships if they got cded and it is not that hard in group fight, cruisers fail big time versus gunboats in group fights.
Cruisers are good only on long range anti battleship bombardment but they die easier then bombers and cannot make the same dps as bomber so cruisers are good in nothing right now.
