Doreen was pulling an extra shift, wrapping up a long day. She had spent much time with Samantha, working on her spirits more than her leg but still, it was part of her job.
She had also released the Holliday twins to their mother. Still small, they were able to be on their own with their mother's care. She finally returned home and just as she was slipping into a robe, her pager went off. With Benjen asleep, she called her friend to stay with him.
When she got back to the center, she found the night receptionist and some staff trying to help three children, two of them cut and bloodied.
"Dear God," she said aloud, "get them to ER....stat!"
In the chaos, she tried to get some information but got little. Her chief concern was to stop the bleeding and try to prevent further damage.
"What happened to this one?" she asked the oldest child of the youngest.
As she questioned, an assistant worked on closing the wounds while Doreen herself was taking bio scans of them all.
Kattty was crashing due to heavy blood loss. "I need type B now! If I don't get it, she won't be here in another five minutes. Now, People, NOW!"
The type A arrived in less than half that time and the blood was flowing into Katty and adrenaline was given. But, by the time she stabilized, she was in a coma. The medical team cleaned her up and kept her comfortable as well as tending to the other two.
Doreen approached the oldest, "Now, I need to know what happened and if there is anyone I can call for you."
